Oh boy, we've gone and done it now

kit_kats_mom wrote: We disconected our satellite tv. ohmy.gif We haven't figured out how to get the local channels on our tv yet so it's a blackout at our house. double ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

Lauren is watching an old Blue's Clues DVD that we had right now and we are going to the library soon to check out some other dvd's. We have tons of movies, an x-box and wii and a blockbuster membership so it's not like there isn't any entertainment at our house.

We did it because 1. it's stupid expensive 2. most of the shows are junk 3. the girls are getting to the age where they are heavily influenced by marketing.

Katherine gets back from camp today...we will see how it goes. unsure.gif I doubt she will be happy.

Now, if only bravo would put project runway on the internet. I can still watch Greys, lost and the other two or three shows I used to online.

mckayleesmom replied: You can always try to find it on youtube wink.gif or the other million youtube like sites.

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: rut roh unsure.gif

luvmykids replied: We managed to last a year without any cable or satellite and then couldn't take it anymore rolling_smile.gif

I never could find Bravo shows online, only clips...maybe they've gotten with the program now like the networks.

Good luck, it's tough sometimes but doable. For at least a year, anyway rolling_smile.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: We've been talking about doing that for a long time too. thumb.gif We already only have the local channels and pbs, and we want to do away with that too. Actually since we'll be living with my parents for a couple years and they don't have tv, the decision will be made for us. tongue.gif

Cece00 replied: I'd like to do it too, but there are too many shows I cant get on the internet...all the HBO & Showtime shows DH and I like, Bravo, Comedy Central, etc.

Calimama replied: Yeah we have no "extra" features on our cable. We have regular cable and it's something like 99 channels and we pay like $35 bucks. Super cool. My best friend has digital cable, every channel imaginable, on demand.. blah blah, and her bill is $200. huh.gif Seems so wasteful.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: It has been over year with only 4 or 5 channels. I dont mind much now, it was harder in the begining. Every now and then I look into getting it back but the cost gets me every time!

kit_kats_mom replied: ours was 125/mo plus the football package for another 600 billed over three months each year. I could put the girls in 4 classes (dance, music, theater etc) each for that price!

Cece00 replied: Ours is probably about $175 a month for EVERYTHING. Its worth it, but so pricey. I love the movie channels, on Demand and I dont know if I could live without DVR. But its expensive, and if I could get my very favorite shows online, I would MAYBE do without it...but since I cant...I suck up paying it every month. OH, but its also for our phone AND internet every month...the CABLE part is probably less than $100 a month. Our phone is $30 something & the internet is $40 something.

mom21kid2dogs replied: Your comment about Katherine cracked me up! laugh.gif I mentioned that we would not have TV at the lake next summer because we are all antenna up there. I thought poor O would have a stroke! rolling_smile.gif Funny thing is, we never ever have it on there except to catch weather forcasts. We only get like 5 channels all fuzzy ones. I guess the thought of not having it was terrifying to her~Too funny!! laugh.gif
I don't think I could live without the weather channel and HGTV laugh.gif We do know of 2 families who have never ever had TV in their homes. They seem to manage just fine!!
Enjoy! thumb.gif

ETA: I think the marketing influence is worse than ever at O's age. She told me last night that she wants to get some cheetos cracker she saw on TV. It's about the 5th time in a month she's brought up some product she thought looked great in a commercial. sad.gif Ugh!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I would get rid of our televisions in a heartbeat. I hate TV.

Good for you, Cary! thumb.gif Let us know how it goes.
