Oh Lordy - Mckaylee just made the connection

I just walked in the bedroom and dh said ...ask mommy and Mckaylee said "is daddy old" and I said "ya..can't you see his grey hairs"...Halfway through that sentence I could see dh mouthing the word NO....Then he said "ugh..she just found the connection between getting old and dying". I told her that nobody knows when they will die, but everybody does, most when they are old though...so it won't be for a long time. I told her that we die so we get to come back as something totally new and different..its the circle of life. She started crying and saying she didn't want us to die...

Dh then told her that we will probably still be around to see her when she has kids and get to laugh at her when they do bad things and she said "no, I will teach them to be good"....I started laughing and said "It didn't work for you" and she said "thats because God gave me a bad brain"...

mom2my2cuties replied: Oh god! She is funny!

mckayleesmom replied: Poor thing...she is still really upset though. She keeps asking us all kinds of questions. She said she would miss us too much if we went to Heaven. Then she asked if God can fix us and send us back to her....

ya...except she was serious....Gosh...she went on and on about this for like 3 hours last night.....She kept following me and dh around like we were going to change the answer to her question....I don't want to lie to her though.

I know...doesn't it just break your heart. She has had a couple pets die and it made her sad, but she never really got till now that people die too. I finally calmed her down by telling her that nobody knows when we are going to die, but you shouldn't worry about it all the time, if something ever happen to mommy or daddy there would be plenty of people here who love her and will take care of her till we see her again, but we are not planning to go anywhere anytime soon.

Sounds like you handled that really well. We went through this with the boys too. Even now they will look at our older relatives and ask when they are going to die because they are old.

Yikes...that would be embarrassing....She did ask how come the neighbor wasn't dead yet.... I hope she doesn't ask her that in person.
