Occupations?? Just curious.

Jamison'smama wrote: I am just curious about the various occupations of the people on this board--sounds like such a diverse group.

I am primarily a SAHM but I work part time (approx 8 hours a week) doing family counseling. Prior to Jamison I worked full time as a domestic violence counselor.

(oh my, had to edit--can't even spell the word work!!)

Linda replied: That sounds so important.
My job on the other hand is so boring, but for a 17 year old getting £240 a week it cant be that bad.
I work in a factory, sounds boring, and it is, but the money is so brilliant!

Jamison'smama replied: nah, my job is no more important than any other, and so much less so now that I am a mom! What type of factory work do you do?

amynicole21 replied: I am the optics buyer for a major sporting goods distributor. blink.gif

DansMom replied: I manage a group of copy editors for an international mathematical publication and database (Mathematical Reviews---aka MathSciNet on the web) based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I work full time sad.gif and play the lottery every week because I want to be a SAHM! (DH is a musician and a SAHD).

juliajaj replied: I work full-time as a documentation writer. My primary duties involve writing online documentation for a computer system, creating/maintaining content on a section of a corporate web site, developing corporate marketing material, editing documents and editing images for the web. I've been working at the same company (in the Chicagoland area) for 5 years. Fortunately I can work at home the majority of the work week, so I only report to our corporate office once a week.

My dream job, once DD is in school is to work in the elementary school's library. I worked in the technology department at a school district 6 years ago, and really enjoyed it (the only downside was the lower income).

Linda replied:

These sound so important and so does yours Jamison'smama.
I wish i had a job that sounded important.

Yeah, if you think about it Youngs, is important, case you wouldnt get the product out and etc. But it just doesnt sound important.

paradisemommy replied: i am a sahm primarily but i'm also in the HIANG (Hawaii Air National Guard aka weekend warrior)...prior to taven though i was a workaholic and an office manager at a commercial real estate and appraisal company...don't miss it ONE bit emlaugh.gif

ediep replied: I am a SAHM for this year, at least. Next year I may go back to work. I am a middle school science teacher

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I am a SAHM and sew on the side, but taking a break.

kit_kats_mom replied: SAHM primarily but I do have a part-time WAH job processing student data from Missouri School districts for Medicaid eligiblity which in the end (after alot of bureaucratic stuff that I have no part in) results in the state funding of physical, speech and educational therapy for medicaid eligible students. I work for a governmental consulting firm. It's perfect for me because it is mainly database stuff and clerical stuff that I am really good at and I can do it anytime.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I am a SAHM, but as of last night I am also a Partylite consultant. This will allow me to remain home with Jade during the day and still make money.

dolfinrse replied: I work for the local County government. I am a secretary to the head of the Finance department.

Mommieto2Girls replied: I'm a SAHM. I do work p/t on the wekend, IDing at a night club. I will be getting a reg job soon though. Need the money.

chloe&tysmommy replied: I am a sahm and love it! I wouldn't mind a weekend job for extra dough though happy.gif

I was working with my dh (which I really don't miss rolling_smile.gif ) and was p/t in a scale house weighing gravel trucks rolling_smile.gif sounds worse than it was!

alice&arik replied:
That is so weird!!! I am a consultant too!! I also work 56hrs/2weeks as a Nursing Assistant, and am trying to go to school for my LPN and then RN. Hopefully it works out cuz my job is so exhausting. blink.gif

MommyToAshley replied: DH (TLCDAd) and I run our own business. We do web design, database development, custom programming, online applications, etc. It's great because this kind of work allows us to work out of our home.

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
That's cool. I'm hoping it works out too because I really don't want to get an actual day job.

kit_kats_mom replied:
How did that go by the way?

CantWait replied: I am currently a SAHM. In my 4th month of maternity leave as a bartender and server at a Kelsey's restaraunt. beer.gif

maestra replied: I'm a kindergarten teacher. It's fun, but a lot of hours! rolling_smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: im stay at home and when my baby girl is born i will be a SAHM yeahh i think...anyways Linda did you say you were 17, if you are thats neat i am too! How old is your dh?

MomToMany replied: I'm a SAHM, and wouldn't trade it for anything! I couldn't afford to work even if I had to. Can you imagine what daycare would cost for 5?? Forget it- it wouldn't be worth it!

momma2jenna replied: I'm a SAHM, I still hold my liscence as a Dental Hygienist.
Will eventually do some saturday's when dd and dh are ready for it.
Hope that's never!

Linda replied:
My boyfriend has just turned 18.
We are planning on getting married when my baby is 2 so she/he can be part of the wedding!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I am an Associate Agent, I have a Property & Casulty License, (aka I sell insurance) and possibly when my agent retires I might take over and buy the business....dunno lot to consider there.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I'm an administrative assistant for the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs.

Up until 2 weeks ago, I pretty much just maintained my 5 lawyers' files and coordinated their travel arrangements for various meetings across Canada. But now...I manage their entire schedules.... it's NUTS.

Without me, the 5 lawyers I work with wouldn't be able to find their butt in their own briefcases.

And now I'm going on maternity leave.... rofl...they're toast! heh

Kaitlin'smom replied:
rolling_smile.gif LOL rolling_smile.gif

jcc64 replied: I'm a textile designer, and work primarily out of my home studio.

coasterqueen replied: I work as an office manager for a non-profit insurance association. Don't flame me, emlaugh.gif , but our association lobbies for huge property/casualty insurance companies. I wear many hats, from running the office to accounting, to legislative liason, to political action committee manager, to meeting planner, etc, etc, etc. I'm a one woman show. LOL. Other than me, we have an executive director and a hotline director. So I basically do everything for the association, boss lobbies, and the hotline director runs our consumer hotline.

Before that I worked as an office manager for a non-profit chiropractic association and before that I was a "booker" for Kerasotes Theatres and "film payer" where I figured all the costs for each week we ran a film, etc. I booked movies for all of the Central and Southern Illinois region. That was a cool job, but VERY stressful and sometimes you had to be "on call" on holidays. If a theatre's film broke or got damaged I had to call people at Universal, Buena Vista, etc and find them a replacement film and then hire a trucker to deliver it. Boy, those were the days, lol.

Now I have a better paying job, but a boring one. wink.gif

booey2 replied: I am an office administrator, which means I do whatever the boss asks ( work in a family run party rental company). Input orders all day long on the puter and a ton of other clerical things.

And I work full time as a mom at home.

Kaitlin'smom replied: ops double

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh forgot to list my second paying job, I also work a freelance production assistant.

what does this mean, well I help prepair show for the theatre, doing what ever they need me to do before during and after the show. So I run around in the dark...LOL I love it its my favorite job, I would not evne care if they paid me or not! Its at night so I have not been able to do it since Kaitlin but hope to get back to it soon!

Guest_kit_kats_mom replied:
are you still in Illinois? Near Bloomington/Normal??? Just guessing. My DH is from there and I know that is where State Farm is based. It would make sense to have an insurance lobbying firm nearby. We are headed there around christmas to visit the inlaws.

Heather replied: I am a Respiratory Therapist and I work in a very busy fast-paced hospital. I work whenever my work needs me as I am Pool status. However, I end up working 2-3 (12 hour) night shifts. I like my job I just don't like WHERE I work. Hoping to be a SAHM soon, we are thinking when we have our second child, we will make that sacrifice!!!

Pretty interesting to see what everyone does!! Pretty cool!!

natjasem replied: I am a prostitute working my way through college, Emma is the youngest of 7. Any questions? ohmy.gif

natjasem replied: I hope everyone has a sense of humor........

DansMom replied: wink.gif Thanks for the end-of-the day laugh---I needed that to end my workday rolling_smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:

laugh.gif laugh.gif OMG!! That is too funny!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

So, do you really have 7 kiddos?

coasterqueen replied:
No we are based in Springfield, Illinois, the capital wink.gif State Farm is one of our members, though rolling_smile.gif

MomofTay&Sam replied: I am a SAHM first and foremost! Never thought I would be at home again until retirement. I am on *leave* now from my current postion of almost 5 years. I am a teacher in the special ed department of my school district. I taught for many years in TX. When I moved to New York I wanted a less demanding schedule but one that had the same hours as my 11 yr old. I work one on one or sometimes 2 on 2 with very handicaped children. Whether it be motor skills or just how to learn to live everyday in the real world. So basically I have been teaching for almost 12 years now. smile.gif

natjasem replied: No, seriously, Emma is my only baby, and I am an Exercise Specialist with a Cardiology group in Kansas City, MO.

aspenblue1 replied: I work customer service for a credit card company. While trying to get my psychology degree and of course a full time Mom! Which is the best job ever. I would love to be a stay at home Mom maybe someday I will be able to do it.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: I am a SAHM, but I am planning to go back to College next september to become a Registered Practical Nurse. I need to go for upgrading and I am going to apply at the school for that this week. I am phoning tomorrow to arrange for Claudia to go into DayCare twice a week. Just to start preparing her.

cam&calsmom replied: I worked for the MPAA up until about 2 weeks before my dd was born. I then became a sahm. I do sell Discovery Toys now though smile.gif If you're interested in it, email me smile.gif
