OT (Infant ?)

holley79 wrote: I know this is the wrong broad for this but just needed quick advice. Steph (new sitter) just called. Annika is tugging on her left ear a lot and it's red inside. Do we have a freaking ear infection on our hands. I thought her tugging on her ear this weekend was her teething. Did I just mess up??? I should have taken today off. I just know it. sad.gif

luvbug00 replied: TBH My first reation reading is ear infection. Hope she doesn't have one! hug.gif

holley79 replied:
That is what I'm afraid off. I wonder if LT will let me out of here to take her to the Dr's. I don't want it to get worse, KWIM? sad.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied:

Does she have a fever? That was the first thing I checked Alex for when I wasn't sure if it was an infection or not.
hug.gif Good Luck!

holley79 replied: All right I just talked to Steph again. (I guess it would have helped had I asked this ? prior) She is not running a fever. While I was trying to get through to the Dr's line I told Steph to give her ice in her wash cloth. She's content now chewing on that. I think it's teeth but I am going to watch her closely when we get home. If I so much as suspect it's her ears I will make an appointment tomorrow for her and just stay home with her. Having babies are tough sometimes. They can't tell you what is hurting. sleep.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: I would make an appointment anyway to be on the safe side. Always better to be safe than sorry. If it is a possible infection, at least the doctor can see something starting so you may know what it would be if it got worse. Many times my son's doctor would see fluid but it wouldn't be infected, then a couple days later he'd get worse, spike a temp, and then perscribe me something over the phone because he knew what it was. I always like to play it safe as possible.

holley79 replied: I am trying to set up an appointment now with the pedi for first thing in the morning. sleep.gif

paradisemommy replied: dd is an ear puller..every time i thought for sure she had an ear infection and rushed her in to the dr. they would tell me - nope she's fine..if she's just tugging at her ears then i wouldn't really worry - if she's crying uncontrollably and you can't console her, then i would worry about an ear infection..and also running a fever..but she just may have discovered she has these 2 things sticking out of the side of her head..

i always run down my list first...

is she taking in liquids?
is she eating ok?
is she having enough wet/poopy diapers?
how's her mood? (is it normal or out of character)

hope this helps..it's just what i do..

holley79 replied:
She is good with everything on the list. She's fine now. I just talked to the nurse. They are booked solid yesterday. She asked me all the same questions on your list. Guess we will wait and see. I just talked to Steph again and all is well. She's not fussy and she is playing. dunno.gif I will just watch her VERY closely.

jaytrevjax replied: Hey, if Annika, (cute name b the way!) does have and ear infection, don't beat yourself up! How were YOU supposed to know she was going to come down with one and stay home? Heck, if every morning we woke up and thought MAYBE something would happen, none of us would be able to keep a job! Stay home tomarrow, take care of her and go from there! Don't fret, you're not a bad mom when you have to work! hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

holley79 replied:
Thank you sweetie. That was really sweet of you. hug.gif hug.gif A friend (RN) of mine came over and checked her last night. She said it was her toofies. Thank goodness for that. She's good to go though.
