Ya'll have heard me talk about him reading etc...

Well he was evalluated this week at his school, because the new school requested to know if he had any issues with learning etc...

are ya'll ready for this?

He tested at a grade 3 level.

Boys r us replied: That's great!!! But it's also very touchy... he sounds like my Tanner and he's always tested 3-4 grades above average in almost all of his subjects. The school and I felt it was best not to skip him so young b/c he needed the time in elementary school to develop socially as well. Well, he became very bored and never had to study and still made A's. Now he's in 6th grade and in his first yr of middle school and he's still making all A's and B's and is in mostly 8th grade classes..however, he's struggling with his poor study habits. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks...studying being the new trick here!

Anyways..I'm just saying that it's incredibly awesome to have a child that is so advanced..but at the same time, it's an incredibly big responsibility on your part too. It's a mixed bag!

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Yes, I know it's good and it's bad..... the same thing happened to me when I was a child. wink.gif

I never really studied. The schools I was in were good though, they worked with me differently because none really had any "gifted" programs except after grade 6.

I did my grades 7 - 13 in 5 years instead of 7. It's why I graduated only a mont after I turned 17. unsure.gif

That's what Bella tested at also. I found out during our last conference. She reads everything! Her teacher still wants them to use their finger when reading and she doesn't so I have to keep reminding her to because she's supposed to. happy.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
The teacher and I, as much as we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things that she does in her class, she HAS asked me in the past what kind of things I did with Zach to get him to catch on to certain concepts, and some of those things she's used in class.

She has written me notes in the past that Zach gets really easily distraced during school activities where they ahve to write things, copy letters etc... I'd told her that DUH of course he would be... he already knows that stuff and is BORED with it. blahblah.gif blahblah.gif I guess she got her answer.

I was looking to homeschool a while back...and to be honest the only reason I haven't is that I get free days when the kdis are in school emlaugh.gif

Ross is having his IQ tested @ the end of the month by our psych, he is very obviously advanced compared to other children his age & we've been wanting to get him tested for awhile now.

We wont be skipping him if he tests very high, but def getting him some enrichment & keeping him challenged.

He is constantly finishing first in class, getting in trouble for talking b/c he is bored with what she is teaching, already reading very well (and we never taught him @ home, one day we just realized he could read...oy) and he's just always been very very smart..

So once we see what we're working with, we'll see what we want to do for him.

Gifted glasses start here in the 2nd grade, so I am sure he'll go into those. I'd have to swtich his school for gifted classes in K & 1 so we probably wont be doing that.

And Rocky, that's awesome...I figure it's because he had a placenta, but I might be wrong.
