As some of you know we have been having an UNholy amount of rain....Well the whole yard is flooded and you have to slop through water to get to the back. This morning I went out to feed the calves and something bit my foot...well I look down and FREAK OUT because there is a GIANT thing on my foot-I thought leach at first-and it is biting the ever lovin crap outta me! I mean I am in tears and it doesn't help that I don't know WTH this thing is. I got it off of me and came inside got cleaned up and calmed down. I snuck back out there and there are more than 10 that I can see swimming through the water that is standing....I decide not to mention it to DH until I can catch one cuz I figure he is gonna think I am INSANE ....I caught one tonight (I wore Bill's boots back out there ) and I bring it up on the porch like a trophy and tell him the story thinking he is going to be as lost as to what this thing is as I am...I show it to him and he says...that is a Helgamite I tell him it hurts like helgamite I know that...he says they fish with them and you usually only find then in the river YUP TOO MUCH RAIN!!! Anyhow he says he thinks they hatch into something so we look online and YEAH they hatch into something alright If these things start flying around here I am MOVING!!!!!!!! Here is the one I caught

Here is a drawing of the larva-what I caught...still in the swimming stage

And HERE is what the adult looks like....KISS MY ......They are called Dobsonflies when they mature...and they say they don't bite anymore. MAYBE cuz they can kill you with fright?!? HOLY CRAP!

Anthony275 replied: those things are HUGE! they look like moths

I should not have scrolled down past your first pic I just knew it!
OMG, I think every single part of me is itching right now and I'm very serious about that.
Thank God Texas is far away from Ohio. You can keep those swimming, flying, biting, monster, Pterodactyl looking things. That things even too ugly to step on. I would do it though. No I wouldn't. That is what dh is for.
Crystalina replied: You are in Texas right?
That just goes to show you...everything is bigger in Texas. We have things like that here as well but we call them birds.

moped replied: Yep, we call them nasty birds - LOLOL
That is nasty Abbie!
redchief replied: If a fly is large enough to be called a bird, shouldn't it be OK to eradicate it from the planet?
Cece00 replied: GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I would freak out if one of those was biting me, let alone if I saw it...
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Oh Abbie...I've never seen anything like that!
Is the river flooded???? Don't tell me all those people were flooded out again!!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I wasn't barefoot I had flip flops on
And yes it should be eradicated from the planet! They are supposed to live in streams/rivers/creeks...I am still trying to find out how long it takes them to hatch in the water because I am terrribly afraid that they didn't just swim (we have a creek about 1 mile away-and there is probably enough standing water for that to have happened) I am afraid they were layed and hatched in the yard which would mean that one of them is already flying around....well actually 2 Mom and Dad
Ed and Lisa-ya'll still want this rain?
Kelly- I will bring food and toys to share
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Aimee- It is bad in alot of the lower areas....but not AS bad as 98 was...YET. It is raining again today and we may not be far off that mark
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I've got a friend with a small ranch. You can bring the cattle too. And of course the rest of the zoo, minus the bug.
MotherForever2043 replied: EEEWWW
luvmykids replied: O M G I would be OUTTA there
Calimama replied: Oh gosh... there are no words.
redchief replied: Yeah, but you can keep your weird Texas sized bugs.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: CRAP! I was kinda hoping for a package deal! Of course if ya'll ever have any neighbors you would like to get rid of I could mail a few to plant on the screens and such
MoonMama replied: OMG HOLY $**^*^$#&T&$%#@%)(*(*^%^@!WE*)*!@#$%^+_)(*)(&^$#!@#$%^)(&*^$#@#^*&&&*_)*(&%!!!!!

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
