O.K. for you pop (soda) drinkers

Sarah&Mackenzie wrote: I heard on the news not too long ago that they did a study on diet and regular pop. They said there was no difference in them regarding weight loss. So WHY am I drinking diet if there is no difference. Did anyone else hear about this????? blink.gif

aspenblue1 replied: I heard something about that but didn't get a chance to hear the entire thing.

luvbug00 replied: I did! Don't that just Blow! I think that adding sparkling water to juice is a nice alternitive though. thumb.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Ive been drinking tea.....so I am going to pretend I didn't see this laugh.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied:
I forgot that you aren't drinking pop anymore.... Sorry..... tongue.gif

mammag replied: I was just doing some looking up about it and the only thing I found was that artificial sweetners can increase your appetite so if you eat more to compensate, you might as well have the regular soda. I haven't noticed an increase in my appetite though. If you log what you are eating and still get the same calories, fat, protein, carbs....then add 3 sodas either the diet or non-diet....you would obvioiusly be consuming less calories by drinking the diet.

Kaitlin'smom replied: depends on if you eat more with the diet thinking your still getting less calories, for me when I switched a few years ago I was not eating more with diet pop so I lossed 20lbs in 3 months from taking away thoes extra calories, now If I could just do that again, find some extra calories to get rid of so the lbs come off

MommyToAshley replied: Now I have another excuse for not drinking diet other than I don't like the taste! tongue.gif

MissyKay2005 replied: I have read many places of the dangers of artifical sweatners, and they are not good. So unless you can't have regular sugar your better off with it. Most people tend to drink more or eat more of diet products becasue they are lower in sugar so in turn is not helping at all, the extra cunsuption of it. Check it out online for your self...look up diet soda and you will find a site for the dangers. Honestly any soda is not good for you but your better off with regular as far as health.

coasterqueen replied:
ITA! thumb.gif ALthough I broke down and did diet this time around I swore I never would. I only consume a tiny amount because it does pass through breastmilk and I'm nursing. I've actually been drinking more tea and water as well.

sissy67 replied: I used to only drink regular sodas and then I got to where I couldnt stand the fact that I had put on so much weight. I started drinking diet while I ate my meals. I then soon after just acquired the taste for them. It did take awhile though.

I now, cant stand a regular soda. They just taste sooo sweet.

I also use sweet n low in my decaf coffee and my decaf tea.

I say, the extra calories in the 2 types of sodas is what the difference is.

I dont find myself getting extra hunger binges.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I drink Diet Rite. It doesn't contain anything and I think it is sweetened with Splenda. dunno.gif I've actually been drinking mostly water these days.

mckayleesmom replied:
That stuff is awful....my old bosses use to love it and had it on tap at the ice cream place I worked at.

MM'sMama replied: Ok if that is the cause I am never drinkind diet again rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: No I haven't but its probably true although I lost ten pounds ONLY drinking diet soda and crystal light last year rolleyes.gif But now I only have a soda everyone couple of days I drink TONS of water.

Lynda836 replied: I found an article about study you were talking about: Drink more diet pop, gain more wt?

Basically they said a couple of things may be happening. It's not the actually diet pop that causes the wt gain but other things that may be associated with choosing diet pop over reg:

-People trying to lose wt may choose diet over reg pop but not make any other diet changes so they either continue to gain wt or don't lose wt.

-There also been theory that suggests that drinking diet drinks that are sweet but don't provide sugar/calories, may by linked to craving sugar from other sources.

I wouldn't worry about drinking diet pop, unless your drinking excessive amounts. There are plenty of diabetics that have been drinking it for years without problems. It seems these days...a study will say it's harmful one day, and something else the next.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied:
Thanks for the info!!! thumb.gif

JessC replied: I have heard this before, but I LOOOOVE the taste of an iced diet coke. yummy.gif

lisar replied: Yea I heard something but didnt pay any attention to it.
