Nursing Moms Stage Airport Protests

Nursing Moms Stage Airport Protests
stella6979 replied: I just think this is absolutely ridiculous. I completely understand that breastfeeding is a normal and natural thing, but I also think it should be a private and personal thing. I'm not saying you can't breastfeed in public, but for crying out loud....cover up!
PrairieMom replied: huh. I flipped through all those pictures of BF babies and didn't see a single breast.
stella6979 replied: Sorry, I didn't actually look at the article, I just assumed it was regarding the lady who's protesting cause a flight attendant asked her to cover up.
skinkybaby replied: While I agree with what they're saying they should have protested when it originally happened. The airline has apologized over and over again and has taken measures to make sure it won't happen again. I'm not sure what more they want.
MyLuvBugs replied: We were talking about this at my BF Support group on monday night. My doula is the leader of the group and she was encouraging us all to go and sit in at the Delta counter in Omaha. I wonder if anyone did it here......Have to watch the news tonight.
MyLuvBugs replied: THe lady on the plane wasn't showing her breast either. She was being descret about the BFing. It was the Flight attendant that had a problem with it.
PrairieMom replied: my comment wasn't directed at you. Sorry. Just people that have a problem with NIP in general.
mom2my2cuties replied: But Erika the point is - The airline has apologized repeatedly, they have taken measures to make sure it doesn't happen again - and this is completely insane and a little bit childish because they will just further impede travelers trying to get out for the holidays.
I don't have a problem with NIP, but frankly I do have a problem with people trying to make trouble where there doesn't need to be any! Meaning the "Nurse In" - because the airline has taken appropriate measures, and while that might not be enough for some, it's all they can do really.
CantWait replied: You can't always be private when breastfeeding. Are they expected to go into a public bathroom to nurse for 10-60 minutes smelling everyones crap and urine? Maybe you'd like to go eat your dinner in a public restroom? I think not. As for covering up, not always the best option either as both mom and baby get over heated and sweaty. I agree that having your tits hang out isn't discreet, but if you look through the photos of those bf mothers in the article, not one has any boob showing.
People really need to grow up and be mature.
MyLuvBugs replied:
And I also didn't say that I was doing a sit in or that I was happy that they were doing the sit in. I frankly could care less, and find it all quite humorous at how juvenile people can be regarding the issue of NIP.
mom2my2cuties replied: I didn't mean that the way it came out Erika I am tired and I think I probably typed what I was saying wrong. I just think this sort of stuff is silly - Especailly since Delta admitted they made a mistake and have made the proper changes to prevent this mistake from happening again.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I think that is a bit much...I made my opinions clear in the OP on the topic BUT I don't think that nursing in public should be done in a hostile way. I really don't see it educating anyone and to be honest irritates me done in this manner. Most of us agreed that we NIP when our babies are/were hungry not as some sort of show of protest I think it makes moms who have to do this for the comfort of their babies look in alot of people's eyes and I fail to see at this belated time what they wanted to acccomplish
One of the moms stated that they were trying to show how sexualized the breast has become....well yeah! That is not going to change with a 'nurse in' where you intentionally don't cover up..The breast is sexual and although for most moms who are nursing that part of it lacks for awhile after weaning that part also returns. Why else do woman lament their figures lost to childbearing and breast feeding....

Well said Marie.
stella6979 replied: Pardon me for voicing my opinion.
my2monkeyboys replied: I think it was wrong of the airline to kick her off the plane, depending on the actual situation. I see no problem with the attendant asking the mother to cover up, as there may have been other passengers that were uncomfortable. Now, as to how the mother responded may have been what caused them to kick her off. The article doesn't say what the actual conversation was between them, and I find it hard to believe they would kick someone off just for saying, "oh, no thank you. we don't need a blanket." I may be wrong, but we just don't hear the whole story from this article. As for public nursing, it doesn't bother me. However, that's as long as the person is being discreet about it. I was at a park one day with my younger cousins, about 7-8 years ago. A lady there literally plopped her boob out, letting it hang there for a good 3-4 minutes while she got her baby out of the carrier and got her situated. I felt very uncomfortable and the kids there all just stopped and stared at her. Like I said, discreetly, I have no problem with it.
