Now, how about a little holiday cheer?
cameragirl21 wrote: in light of the little bit of conflict earlier today and my sadness over someone I know dying of ALS, I thought it might be fun if we all posted our favorite holiday songs. Mine is "Feed the World" by Band Aid, and those of you who are kids of the 80s as I am will likely remember this song in its heyday. I look forward to hearing this song on the radio every holiday season. And of course, I also love Adam Sandler's "Hannukah Song", both versions and I must say I was surprised that he didn't come out with a third version because the following year was the year of the Monica Lewinsky fiasco and seeing as how she is Jewish and Monica rhymes with Hannukah, I was really surprised he didn't bank on that one...guess for once he chose to be politically correct. Anyway, in case some of you don't know "Feed the World" here are the lyrics: --------------------------------------
It's Christmas time There's no need to be afraid At Christmas time, we let in light and we banish shade And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time
But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones At Christmas time it's hard, but when you're having fun There's a world outside your window And it's a world of dread and fear Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears And the Christmas bells that ring there Are the clanging chimes of doom Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you
And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time The greatest gift they'll get this year is life Where nothing ever grows No rain nor rivers flow Do they know it's Christmas time at all
(Here's to you) raise a glass for everyone (Here's to them) underneath that burning sun Do they know it's Christmas time at all
Feed the world, feed the world, feed the world Let them know it's Christmas time again
Feed the world Let them know it's Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it's Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it's Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it's Christmas time again
-------------------------------------- please share your faves and spread some cheer....
Calimama replied: Mine is White Christmas!!
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know Where the treetops glisten, and children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I love "Feed the World". But my current favorite is "Breath of Heaven" sung by Amy Grant. Followed closely by "Little Drummer Boy" with David Bowie and Bing Crosby.
Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song) I have traveled Many moonless night Cold and Weary With a babe inside And I wonder What I've done Holy Father You have come Chosen me now To carry your son
I am waiting in a silent prayer I am frightened by the load i bear In a world as cold as stone Must I walk this path alone Be with me now Be with me now
[chorus:] ----------------------------------- Breath of Heaven Hold me together Be forever near me Breath of Heaven
Breath of Heaven Lighten my darkness Pour over me, your holyness For your holy Breath of Heaven -----------------------------------
Do you wonder As you watch my face If a wiser one, should of had my place But I offer-all I am For the mercy-of your plan Help me be strong Help me be Help me
[chorus]
kimberley replied: always has been Silent Night.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I love Silent Night. Especially in German.
lesliesmom replied: Love the David Bowie/Bing Crosby "Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth". Also any Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant Christmas music. My current song, that I just can't get enough of is Reba McIntyre's "Mary Did You Know". I love it and now DD is singing along to it too.
Mary did you know, that your baby boy Would one day walk on water? Mary did you know, that your baby boy Would save our sons and daughters? Did you know, that your baby boy Has come to make you new? This Child that you delivered, Will soon deliver you!
Mary did you know, that your baby boy Will give sight to the blind man? Mary did you know, that your baby boy Would calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know, that your baby boy Has walked where angels trod And when you kiss your little baby, You've kissed the face of God? Oh, Mary did you know? Mary did you know?
The blind will see, the deaf will hear, The dead will live again, The lame will leap, the dumb will speak Praises of the Lamb?
Mary did you know, that your baby boy Is Lord of all creation? Mary did you know, that your baby boy Will one day rule the nations?
Did you know, that your baby boy Was Heaven's perfect Lamb? And this sleeping Child you're holding Is the Great I AM

C&K*s Mommie replied: I was just thinking about my favorite Christmas song today while driving. I cannot think of the name of it, but I instantly recognize it when I hear it. But secondary to that I like Adam Sandler's Hannakuh songs. There are two parts to the same title. I also like his Thanksgiving song about turkey.
luvbug00 replied: "o' holy night" hands down
redchief replied: Oh Holy Night is my favorite Christmas hymn, but the only song (of any kind) that has ever brought tears to my eyes is:
Newsong The Christmas Shoes
It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line Tryin' to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously Pacing 'round like little boys do And in his hands he held a pair of shoes His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe And when it came his time to pay I couldn't believe what I heard him say Chorus: Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes would make her smile And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight He counted pennies for what seemed like years Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here" He searched his pockets frantically Then he turned and he looked at me He said Mama made Christmas good at our house Though most years she just did without Tell me Sir, what am I going to do, Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out I'll never forget the look on his face when he said Mama's gonna look so great Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes would make her smile And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight Bridge: I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love As he thanked me and ran out I knew that God had sent that little boy To remind me just what Christmas is all about Repeat Chorus
TANNER'S MOM replied: Oh Ed that song makes me cry.and the one about a little named Christmas Carol
redchief replied: Everyone says it's too sad. I disagree. While there is sadness in the tale, the theme is about reminding us why we commemorate Christmas, and other winter season holidays. I think it does well to remind all of us that giving at Christmas isn't about how much or the brand on the label. Christmas is about giving of our souls and from our hearts. It's not about giving because society expects us to. It's about giving because giving is right and good.
mom2my2cuties replied: I have to agree - Mary Did You Know is by far one of my favorite songs...It's beautiful, and so inspiring...It tend to bring me to tears as with the song Christmas Shoes. Or something like that
luvmykids replied: OMG....I didn't know anyone else had heard "Mary did you know"!!! I've only heard it by Kathy Mattea but I LOVE it and it chokes me up every time I hear it (which is about a million). Oh Holy Night is my fave hymn, and I love "My Favorite Things" by Tony Bennett.
CantWait replied: Ditto.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Kenny Rogers does a duet version of "Mary Did You Know" with Wynonna that is phenomenal.
