Now THAT'S a good question!
mom21kid2dogs wrote: We went to the library today to turn in O's tally for the summer reading program so far and one of the "prizes" she got was a Burger King coupon. Of course, she wanted to eat lunch there, so we did.
She gets a kid's meal, sits down, opens it and they are giving away toys based on the Transformer movie. She's not into the toy so she's trying to figure out which friend to give it to. Then she looks at me and says "Why are they giving away a Transformer toy anyway, mom? The movie is rated PG13 so kids can't even watch it!" Ummm . . .that's a good question! Think I'll email BK corporate and see how they answer that one!
msoulz replied: What a smartie she is!!
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I didn't even think about that one. She is a smart little girl.
Anthony275 replied: maybe she'll get some coupons and stuff in the mail for doing that, my friend had a defective rice chex (it was just burnt ) and he wrote a letter and got coupons for free chex with a tshirt and stuff
mom21kid2dogs replied: Oh Lord! Free BK~my kid's life dream!!! seriously, she'd be in heaven!
grapfruit replied: Great job O, you stumped me! Let us know what BK says!
luvbug00 replied: smart thinking but the movie isn't all that bad, just rated that for the sware words and one part about somthing sexual. I thought if they took the sexual part out it wouldn't have effected the story line and could have been a PG even though shrek had more sexualy seggestive things. also the swaring wasn't really needed . Whatever, mya will see it when it comes out on DVD.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: She's so smart! Let us know what happens, k!
HuskerMom replied: Pretty smart girl!
CantWait replied: That's an excellent question!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oh man.
And to think... US standards to rate movies are different that ours
So your pg 13 movie is like our 14A rating... yeah ok - what 14 year old kid still eats Kid's meals at BK?
• GENERAL: Suitable for all ages.
• PG: Parental guidance is advised because some of the content may not be suitable for kids.
• 14A: Under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult due to sex, violence or profanity.
• 18A: Under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
• RESTRICTED: No one allowed in under the age of 18.
• ADULT: Some provinces also utilize an A rating, used exclusively to classify movies featuring unsimulated sex.
Calimama replied: Good question!!
luvmykids replied: I think it's great that she caught that! I wouldn't want a toy for a movie the kids won't be seeing because it's not age appropriate, definitely let us know what BK says to that!
redchief replied: Motion Picture Association of America film rating system:
G = General Audiences, no restrictions - Suitable for all PG = Parental Guidance Suggested - May not be suitable for children PG13 = Parents strongly cautioned - Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13 R = Restricted - Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian NC-17 = No one 17 and under admitted
There are also non-MPAA ratings of X, XX, and XXX. These ratings are applied to adult films featuring purely or nearly pure sexual content.
A&A'smommy replied: she is a VERY smart child... I know I wouldn't let my child watch it!!!
maestra replied: We stop at BK often since there is one right around the corner from out house- but I hate their meal toys in general. They are never anything my kids like. We always just large size our orders and get some $1 chicken nuggets for the kids and give them some of our fries and drinks, since their toys are so . They don't care- as long as they get to go to the playpark.
Giselle calls it bugahain!
MoonMama replied: Great question!
Nina J replied: The advertising is all marketed towards children. K-Mart and Target are full of transformers toys now, even though the movie supposedly isn't for kids. We went and saw it, it wasn't bad. I think it all depends on your child.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: That is an excellent question from a an obviously incredibly intelligent little girl! Let us know what BK says...somehow I am betting it won't be any where close to that intelect
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Why they needed to make it a PG13 movie I'll never know. I haven't seen it, but I was around when the original transformer toys were big. My brother was probably 5 and had tons of them. Complex little buggers, but that's another post entirely. They were kids toys, and those of us who grew up with them probably like the nostalgia of the movie bringing back memories of Optimus Prime. And how many 20-25 year old single males would want to go to a G rated movie? Anyhow, great question, Olivia! Can't wait to hear BK's answer.
Brias3 replied: She hit that right on the head! I wonder these things myself. Mason was similarly wondering about the subject when McD's had the Pirates of the Carribean stuff out and we didn't let him see that. I personally thought it would be too long and in some parts, over his head/scary for even my older two!
