Not the same

mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: Have you found that sometimes buying the cheaper store-brand products aren't always the same as the more expensive ones like they claim to be? For some things they are the same, like I buy Walmart brand lotion which is exactly like Eucerin IMO, but I bought Walmart brand instant oatmeal yesterday (two for $3) and tried it this morning! ICK! It's not the same! I don't care about brand names, but this was definately a difference. Way sweeter, more artificial junk IMO and it stayed soupy! What do you guys think? I'll never buy it again and now I have two boxes full! I could have bought the better stuff at 2 for $5...probably worth the extra $2! growl.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I agree that it isn't always the same. ESPECIALLY the oatmeal!! laugh.gif I figured that out this week, too. puke.gif

MamaJAM replied: Years ago we saw the store-brand mac and cheese on HUGE sale at our grocery store....so we stocked up (bought like 20 boxes for $4). That night we made the first box - it was HORRIBLE!!! We ended up throwing the rest out -- it was just awful (guess that's why it was so cheap! happy.gif ).

moped replied: I am all about brand names, especially food - LOL......I can't stand the walmart brand foods, but that is just me!

My2Beauties replied: I'm bad about that too, I almost always buy the brand name stuff! Cereal and everything, I just can't bring myself to buy the store brands! I'm awful, but everytime I ever did I immediately noticed a difference in almost every product!

C&K*s Mommie replied: sometimes I find that to be true, and no matter what we stay away from those things that we have had that are awful in the generic version. Our girls love the oatmeal from Dollar General (it sells for $1 a box). I have to be in the mood to eat oatmeal, so I have never had that version. I always prefer Quaker Oats Raisin, Date, Walnut oatmeal. thumb.gif

We used to be choosy about the cheese, and mayonaiise, and ketchup-- but we are not anymore. rolleyes.gif As they say beggars cannot be choosers, and we have been beggars more times we care to admit! laugh.gif laugh.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: There are ceratin things I can only buy brand name some things i dont care about and then as I am a freak certain things I can only buy store brand (raisin bran)
If I buy food that i don't like I typically feed it to the kids smile.gif they aren't as picky about a lot of those things that I have grown accustomed(sp) to the taste of

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Most things we get cheaper versions of. When we eat mac n cheese, Kraft it's gotta be. But if we use it in tuna casserole or if we mix it with, say, ground beef, we use the no name version and add some grated cheese as topping.

Ketchup, mayonnaise and pasta has to be brand name. Actually the "no name" brand is ok - but regular generic is a no no. It falls apart to mush, much too easily.

I'm all for discounts... so we stock up on stuff when it's on sale.

ETA - I grew up on generic anyways, as did DH... so it doesn't really bother us all that much to buy it and eat it, and feeed it to the kids - but when we have company over, we always get the good stuff. rolleyes.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: There are certain things that I will only buy Brand name, but I do buy stuff that is the cheaper price. The one thing that I must have that is brand name is Kraft American cheese slices!!

fashionmumofboys replied: I usually buy the brand names for food. Sometimes I may go with a no name product, but depending on what it is.

jcc64 replied: Some things have to be name brand- mayo, ketchup, Tide detergent, certain cereals.
But other things- frozen veggies, pasta, staples like sugar, flour, etc, can be store brand and no one notices the difference.

ediep replied: I tried the store brand of Honey Combs....gross, but the store brand of Raisin Bran Crunch is better than the Kellogs.

I usually buy generic brands of Advil and Tylenol they are the same to me

3xsthefun replied: I have to have name brand stuff in somethings. But I have found some the store brand stuff is just as or good, or sometimes taste better then the brand name stuff.

Besides it gets way to expensive to buy all name brand stuff. It does for us anyways.

CantWait replied: Yes, there are some foods / brands that I will pay more for because I find them better then the no-name or store brand.

luvmykids replied: Some things I have to buy name brand, mac and cheese, cream cheese, etc. Other things I'll do "store brand" but no way "generic"

jcc64 replied: Never need to buy the name brand drugs- tylenol, advil, etc. The store brands are EXACTLY the same ingredients, and a fraction of the price.

ions_momma replied:
I am the exact same way!

My3LilMonkeys replied: We are pretty much store brand of everything - it's more affordable. There are some things that we must buy name brand though - Pasta, ketchup, soda.

kayla's mama replied: Coming from someone who's DH works in the grocery business.....His store brand mac n' chees is the same as kraft. Actually, they are warehoused at the same place. Alot of the name brand co. has some deals with the stores to labels their products as both name and store brand. Thats just my 2cents.gif

CosmetologyMommy replied: I prefer name brands........ cool.gif

A&A'smommy replied: YES definitly I'm not all about name brand either but sometimes you cannot buy the store brand its just not worth it!!

~~*Missi*~~ replied: yes i am a total label snob when it comes to ravioli it has to be name brand (CBRD)....the store kind just doesn't do it it leaves like a after taste yuck

I also found that with some diapers now that sabrina is bigger. When she was little I could put her in any brand and she wouldn't leak. Now if I buy generic i get peed on or poop'd on. Wal-mart here use to carry dri-bottoms with suzie zoo on them and they were the best for any age....Now they switched to white cloud or something and they stink. Horrible.

Somethings are just as good whether name brand or generic. Like some of the "cereals" etc...
Or I love child of mine clothes at walmart which is a branch of carters but cheaper and lasts just as long.
I think its hit or miss like everything...
