Not looking forward to this

MommyToAshley wrote: I think I may have to get my wisdom tooth extracted. sad.gif I will have to talk to the surgeon, but my dentist said that the surgeon will have to cut through the bone since it is impacted and pushing on the nerve of the tooth next to it. sad.gif .... Did I say sad.gif

coasterqueen replied: Yikes! I won't tell my wisdom tooth story, then. tongue.gif GL. I'm sure it will go well thumb.gif

jcc64 replied: Just had this done within the past year, Dee Dee. I was told to take care of it when I was in my twenties, and blew it off b/c I was afraid of the small possibility of permanent paralysis of my lower lip if they hit a nearby nerve. The tooth wasn't bothering me (wouldn't even have known it was there had it not been for x-rays) and was easy to ignore. Eventually, however, it destroyed the molar in front of it, and that tooth required an eventual root canal and crown. The procedure wasn't pleasant, but it was infinitely more tolerable than the cost. So, my advice to you is: just do it, sooner rather than later.

luvbug00 replied: awww ouch

MommytoKKC replied: I feel for you. I had 4 of them out in high school. I looked like a hamster afterwards. Stock up on your favorite ice cream and jello if you get it done smile.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: Ewww. Sorry Dee Dee. I had mine out in high school two days before thanksgiving thinking it would be a good way to resist gaining weight. Of course, I was just fine and ate like a pig. LOL I had mine done by my regular dentist with no anesthesia though because I couldn't afford to go to an oral surgeon. However, yours sound more serious. Just get it over with.

PrairieMom replied: I went to an oral surgeon to have mine done about 5 years ago. It was easy peasy, yours sound like a bigger deal, but really my post op ordeal was really nothing big. Few stitches in the sockets, and that was about it. Really, not to much pain. I don't even remember there being any pain.

jcc64 replied: Ita that the recovery is really no big deal, Dee Dee. If I knew it was going to go as smoothly as it eventually did, I would have done it A LOT sooner, and saved myself a few thousand bucks.

CantWait replied: sad.gif Not fun. I didn't have any trouble with mine, but than again I only got 1 taken out.

luvmykids replied: I had the same thing done my first Spring Break at college dry.gif But the recovery was nowhere near as bad as I'd imagined...I was terrified of dry sockets but had no problems whatsoever. hug.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: My oral surgeon was a total hottie so I had quite an enjoyable experience. I had all 3 removed at once. 2 were impacted. Because I don't get knocked out for oral surgery, the worst part was the noise. The best part was the view! I did getr dry socket and that was very painful but before that I didn't even need the pain medication. I think the worst pain (other than dry socket) was the pain at the injection site but that just felt like a bruise.

Best of luck. I'm sure the worst part will be waiting & dreading it and not the actual surgery! hug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I decided to quit putting it off and I go Tuesday. However, the waiver with the long list of possible complications is enough to scare anyone off!

PrairieMom replied:
hug.gif are they going to knock you out for it?
I am a total dental wuss. I don't understand it. I gave birth twice with no epidural, but i need extra Novocain to tolerate getting a cavity filled.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Are you just having one removed, or all of them? I had all four taken out when I was 14, and I think it actually would have been an ok experience if it weren't for my TMJ. I was in horrible pain for a month afterwords, but it was all in my jaw. The actual healing from the surgery was ok - it's kind of gross cleaning out the incision sites, but otherwise it was fine. I hope it goes well for you! hug.gif hug.gif

kimberley replied: oh no! i got mine yanked at 21 (before my dad's benefits ran out). it's not pleasant but not as bad as childbirth. get good pain killers for after. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: hug.gif hug.gif I hope all goes well. Here is a tip to help reduce the swelling, go to a pharmacy that sells medical supplies and buy a strip of burn netting and gel packs that you can freeze or boil. This is what I used when I had my wisdom teeth out. We had a lot left over from when Spencer had his pic line and I've lent it to friends that have had their wisdom teeth out they agree it works really well. You put the gel packs in the burn netting and wrap it around your face. hug.gif hug.gif
