No more flushable butt wipes!

coasterqueen wrote: laugh.gif This is sort of comical, I guess. Maybe not. I'm in a weird mood today so please excuse me. cool.gif

The alarm on our septic tank went off yesterday morning and since we'd never heard it go off before and the alarm is in the basement no one knew til late last night when DH went down there to watch a movie. I had heard a humming noise yesterday morning before work and couldn't figure it out and didn't figure it out when we got home from work. Anyways, DH turned it off last night and we had to conserve water (in fear of our poo going all over the yard, sorry TMI) until we got the maintenance guy out there to look at it.

Well DH just called and said "no more flushable butt wipes momma!". rolling_smile.gif Just the way he said it made me crack up, but I guess this means we can't use them anymore. Well, I should say Kylie can't use them anymore - she's the only one we use them on. I guess they got wrapped around the motor and caused it to set the alarm off. I'm starting to wonder if she used a ton of them without us knowing and that's how it happened. bigthink.gif

Oh well, I'm just glad it didn't cost us anything because I wasn't sure how we'd pay for it. tongue.gif

amynicole21 replied: Whoops! Guess that's the end of that laugh.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: Yeah, my neighbor learned that one the hard way. We had to have our drain snaked a month ago. While he was cleaning mine he was telling me about my neighbor. Apparently she was using "flushable" baby wipes for several months with her baby. He said her sewer was totally plugged to the city line with them. It took him 10 hours (to the tune of 4K) to clean it out. I gues she came out of the house in tears with the offending canister of wipes in hand. The plummer said "I know what it says, honey. Unfortunately they'll put anything on the box to sell it to you". They don't degrade in our 100 year old sewer pipes up here!

fashionmumofboys replied: Glad it didn't cost you guys anything.

DansMom replied: Wow, I'm glad you posted this! We use those---I don't want to go through any of that, to be sure.

Mom2BNTN replied: I'm glad you found this out before anything worse happened. Just goes to show how we all live and learn. tongue.gif

coasterqueen replied: Yeah, it's a bummer we can't use them. Our maitenance guy told us long ago what we can't use in our system. We have a fairly advanced system with no laterals so we don't have to follow as many rules, but still he never mentioned wet wipes, course they weren't around then. happy.gif

I guess this answers my question of is it possible to flush the gDiapers I use for Megan down the toilet. Guess not. rolleyes.gif I've been using them and disposing of them at work, guess if I keep using them I'll have to follow this route.

The weird thing is we've been using the wipes for AGES and our maintenance guy comes out every month or every 3 months (can't remember) and hasn't ever mentioned them stuck in there before. Weird.

C&K*s Mommie replied: That is awful with what happened to Cheryl's neighbor. ohmy.gif

What are gdiapers, Karen??

kimberley replied: laugh.gif your dh is hilarious! i bet it was Kylie throwing wads down there or you would have had problems before. kids rolleyes.gif happy.gif

A&A'smommy replied: ohh goodness sorry to hear that.. your dh is halarious I would have been dying out laughing tongue.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: laugh.gif That's too funny! (what Ryan said)

Sorry to hear about the back up, though. tongue.gif What a relief that it didn't cost anything.

PhiMuMommy replied: well crud i was going to buy some for alex.. guess not anymore.. oh well

glad it didn't cost ya anything!
