News topic tonight... - WDYT?

PrairieMom replied: I can deffinately see their point, having worked in and ICN, I have seen a lot of 25 weekers be "saved" just to end up blind, and with cerebal palsy, or other dissabilities. I think that if you could see all the treatment and medical intervention that actually needs to be done with your own eyes it might alter your decision. that being said, I would fight to save my baby after 24 weeks. I know it can be done, even with all the disabilities that would come with it, I wouldn't be able to give up on my child.

5littleladies replied: I think that is one of the worst things I've ever heard.
luvmykids replied: There's no way I could do that. Wow, I understand what Tara is saying but wow, that's about all that comes to mind.
ilovemybaby replied: I see your point but there are also many 25 weekers who grow up to be perfectly healthy kids with no problems. I think it should be up to the mother and father. Not the doctors.
I would want to give my baby a chance. And it must be soooo hard to let doctors take your baby off life support. Definitely not an easy thing to do.
I don't think they should do it, because they keep adults on life support in comas for ages. If they are going to do that, then they should do that with adults too. A baby has as much rights to live as an adult IMO
They might as well just stop trying to save anyones life altogether if they are going to be left with a disability or health problem. But they don't do that.
My3LilMonkeys replied: My first thought on reading that was, How could they even consider such a thing? I understand Tara's points but if it were my child I would want them to do whatever it takes. I'd take a baby who was blind, had cerebral palsy or any other disability for that matter over routine murder any day.
MyLuvBugs replied: I agree 100%
ilovemybaby replied: I meant to reply to this last night but we were having major computer troubles. Now the computer has stopped working altogether.
I think they should leave the decision up to the parents. But I totally understand how much care prem babies need and all the risks and health issues.
And it must be hard for the nurses who take care of prem babies too. You can't help but get attached to a baby.
