News on the situation with the school...

Boys r us wrote: Well, the letter was hand delivered to the school by myself personally this morning at 7am, I physically put a copy in the principal's box and the school nurse's box(she's the one who sent the letter). I also emailed a copy of the letter to EVERY school board member and it is almost 1pm here and I have not had one phone call or email from the school or school board. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

However, I did take the advice of some here and go public with our story to the news, well I emailed the news station here and told them of my story last night. Low and behold first thing this morning, a call at work from the news!!!
She said that they got my email and that she read it this morning in their daily meeting and everyone in that meeting was flabbergasted and was on my side!!
She's meeting me here at 2pm to do an interview for a news story about it!!!!!!

Thanks to all who suggested this idea b/c it has really made me feel vendicated!
I'm not doing this to publicize OUR story, but to let people know this is going on in our schools! Think..the parents WHO DON'T get the letter home b/c their child falls in the "normal" range don't have a clue this is going on...yet it still may be effecting their child to have to line up and weigh in at school. Sends a bad message!

My2Beauties replied: I cannot believe the school board has not contacted you at all. That is BS growl.gif BUt I am soooooooooooooooo glad that you went public with this and the news was receptive and appalled by it as well. I hope this causes a huge local stink and that parents step up and support you and are just as outraged. Let us know when they air your story, they may even start a full blown investigation type thing on this, like a little mini story that takes a few days or weeks to put together. That would be great, this needs to be addressed immediately! thumb.gif Good for you for standing up for Tanner! You are a wonderful mom!

moped replied: OMG - that is great!!!!!!

I can't believe you haven't heard from the school, but please let us know how it goes with the news crew!!!!

What news is it? I have satellite, maybe I can find it???????

C&K*s Mommie replied: WTG... Nichole for not sitting on this! clapsmiley.gif

dito.gif to what LeaAnn said.

CosmetologyMommy replied: That's great about the news! The school board seems like they do not want to take responsiblity. Congrats on standing up for your son and what is right! thumb.gif

PrairieMom replied: If the media has ahold of it, I betcha it won't be long before you hear from the school board! rolleyes.gif Good for you! I am so glad that you aren't just sitting by. You are really taking the bull by the horns here! YOU GO GIRL! thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Good for you.

I hope that the school board realizes what injustice they are doing... especially if the "normal" weight kids aren't getting these letters.

TANNER'S MOM replied: Good Job Nichole! I am so glad!

They really take this too far. I don't blame you at all.

Next year I will refuse them to test my children.. And by law you can refuse!

fashionmumofboys replied: Good for you for going to the media. I can't wait to hear what they have to say about it. For sure now, you will hopefully hear from the chool and school board.

How awful of the School to acknowledge nothing as of yet. growl.gif

KUP.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: That is great news. I am glad that you are doing something about it, I am still angry that they did that. mad.gif How is your son today? Has he eaten?? Poor little guy!!

C&K*s Mommie replied:
Yes, not to forget him. blush.gif How is he feeling?? wub.gif

DansMom replied: Oh, this is good---I definitely think it needs to be publicized.

Speaking of how Tanner is doing, is there any way to protect him from the publicity angle? I hadn't thought about that when I advocated going public. I still think you should, but it occurred to me that it might compound his embarrassment to be on the news (for example). In the long run, though, it teaches that what the school did to him was wrong and that one must stand up for what is right.

gr33n3y3z replied:
good job Nichole now you have them thinking of what to do and thats a good thing
Wait till they see it in the papers lol I cant wait to see what comes of this.
They are prolly preparing for a lawsuit.

redchief replied: All I can say is, "Wow."

I missed your original post with the contents of the letter. I applaud your restraint. The school would have had a Mad as a March Hare redchief on it's hands first thing this morning if such a letter came to me that way. The entire building, and any neighbors within three miles or so, would have heard me raise the roof. THEN I would have gone to the press.

mom21kid2dogs replied:
Exactally! I talked with a friend last night who is an elementary principal and he said they don't do this in our district (So it's not a Federal mandate). In fact, in our district you must consent to have your child weighed. He said he'd never heard of such nonsense!

luvmykids replied: Hope you're all holding up ok, a Mom's gotta do what a Mom's gotta do!!!! thumb.gif

ions_momma replied: I cant believe that the school hasnt contacted you yet!! Good for you going public about it!! Hows Tanner doing?

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Nicole~First of all I am in SHOCK that this happened! I am so sorry for poor Tanner. I hope that you guys can get thru this with as little damage to his self esteem as possible-Now sounds like a perfect time to introduce the Some people are STUPID rule! I think going to the news was a great thing to do. I am disgusted that they did not ask your permission to weigh your son. They have you sign permission slips for everything else around here-except obviously what THEY WANT to do! mad.gif I can only gather from this whole incident that since they seem to be failing miserably in the education of our children that they have decided to move on to something a little less challenging, at least in this way if they graduate reading at a 3rd grade level they will do so in good physical shape! mad.gif Let us know how the news report goes! hug.gif Please hug Tanner for us....

CantWait replied: Good for You bigtup.gif clapsmiley.gif I can't believe they would do this without your permission, but then not to get back to you when you have concerns about it...that's rediculous. Please update us on this.

huggybugboy replied: Great job! Let us know how the interview went...

BAC'sMom replied: Yes, let us know. I hope your son is feeling better today.
