New smile
mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: Okay, you asked...so here it is...My new smile! I got one new bridge and four crowns today (permanent). I love how white they are and I haven't even done the whitening yet. So far so good. I go back for a cleaning and then they will make a mold of my teeth for the whitening, which he said will probably only take two nights since my real teeth are pretty white as it is (you wear this gel in the trays overnite). My gums are still a bit swollen and red, but they will "grow" (according to the doc) and fill-in naturally. I'm happy! I've had bad teeth (braces, bridge, missing teeth, everything!) all my life and I felt it was worth it to finally have the smile I've always wanted! Of course I'm super critical of myself...but I think the doc did a pretty good job! Thanks for letting me share.

C&K*s Mommie replied: The work looks great. That gives me hope that I can have a pretty smile too.... one day.
amynicole21 replied: VERY nice I've used the trays before and they work pretty well. Did the dentist say anything about the bridged teeth not taking the whitening? My front two teeth are fake and they do weird things when I try to bleach them.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I need to have the same thing done, Rae. One bridge and one crown plus a whole lot of fillings. If I get that job that's what I will be saving for.
Your teeth look beautiful! You have a great smile!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I guess the material they used is a porcelain that will never stain. So they will remain this color. So it's my other teeth that I have to keep whitening to keep up with my "new" ones. So the answer to your question, no, it won't bleach the new teeth (bridge or crowns), because I asked that exact question.
How long ago did you get the front two fake ones Amy? I know my old bridge got really gray-like. I had it for over 15 years! I never tried bleaching it because I just imagined it wouldn't work. But like I said, this dentist told me that the crowns and bridge will remain the same as they look now. Maybe not when I'm 60, but you kwim! Let's hope he's right! You can always go in for a consultation and ask about newer products. That's what I did and then had them submit all the work to my insurance.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Yes, it took us a lot of "saving up" and waiting several years until I got the nerve up to go ahead with it. I didn't want to be PG while I got the work done, so the last three years have of course been out of the question. And then other more things needed to be paid off first, like my c-section (ouch!).
I hope that you get it done too Aimee, although I think your smile is great as is!
I feel like a kid who just got her braces off!
amynicole21 replied: Wow, it's probably been 15 years since I got them redone, too. They haven't started to gray, but they are chipped a bit. I really want to get them redone. I'd like to whiten the rest of them so that I can get the front ones to match the newer, whiter teeth. But, I don't want to have to walk around with two-toned teeth in the meantime!
MyBabeMaddie replied: Rae your teeth look great! I LOVE YOUR HAIR!
luvmykids replied: I'm so glad you love your smile, it looks great and you look beautiful as always
JadensMama05 replied: Oh your teeth look so nice!! You've got a lovely smile and your hair is really cute too!! Good job to your dentist (and who ever cuts your hair ). I've got seriously messed up teeth and someday hopefully I can have a smile as beautiful as yours. Congrats!

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oh Wicked!!! I want some.
Seriously though - I used that Crest Whitestip crap a while back... and it ate through the enamel on two of my teeth.... it ate through to the nerve on one of them. It sure hurt the first few days...
I have a fake tooth too, I busted it on the side of a boat when I was 16... my tooth shattered inside my lip. I still have a star-shaped scar from where it "exploded". Except mine is fake only on the bottom half... so there's a "line" where the tooth color changed.
I'd like to have all my front teeth fixed.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Amy, they actually put in the new ones before whitening. This way you can always "work up" to match the color of the new ones. Did that make sense? When picking the new teeth, my doc only went up a slight shade from my perm teeth so that even if I didn't do the whitening, it wouldn't be all that noticeable. I wanted it to look natural. He said that he sometimes sees people wanting them too white and they look like little chicklettes (the gum) in their mouth!
When I meant "gray-like", I meant the metal of my bridge started to show through my permanent front tooth, making it appear gray. Now I don't have that problem since both front teeth are crowns!
