Need some P&PT please - for my grandfather

My3LilMonkeys wrote: As a little background, my grandfather has several health problems including diabetes and asthma. He was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's almost 3 years ago and has been living with my parents for the last 2 1/2 years because he is unable to care for himself.

Just before Christmas last year he had a major setback and was in the hospital for a few weeks. At that point the Dr. said he has basically lost the will to live and said he had about 6 months left. When he came home from the hospital that time his condition improved and other than the Alzheimer's he has been doing well.

Then 2 weeks ago he started to go downhill - can't really walk on his own and won't help with dressing himself or anything. He has been eating less and less - yesterday my mom said he ate 1/2 a sandwich and drank a glass of water and that was it for the day.

Today they came and took him to hospice care. I am torn between wanting him to improve and come home and - as horrible as it sounds - part of me would like to see him let go and move on to a better place where he will not be suffering. bawling.gif bawling.gif

Any P&PT's for my grandfather and my parents would be greatly appreciated.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'm so sorry to hear that. hug.gif It's so hard to watch our grandparents age. My parents are caring for my grandmother right now and she is spiraling downwards REALLY fast. She has dementia, but I'm pretty sure she now has full blown alzheimers. She cannot remember from one minute to the next.

I'm praying for your grandfather and your family. I hope God gives you strength and understanding. hug.gif

jcc64 replied: I'm very sorry. I remember going through that with my grandma- the conflicting emotions about not wanting them to pass and wishing the suffering would finally be over for them. It's ok to feel that way- obviously he's feeling that way too. Just be sure to let him know as much as possible how much you love him and how much he means to you. hug.gif
