Need opinions
cameragirl21 wrote: ok, please be very honest if you give me your opinion and please feel free to give explanations, etc. Ok, so here's the deal--I am in the process of starting another business and writing a book. In the meantime, it occurred to me that I should start a blog about juicing with recipes, pictures, etc and the blog will be about wellness and living green but not be heavy and with the humorous touch I generally lend to things in my writing. This blog has nothing to do with the biz I'm starting (which I'll tell you all about when I get there but for now I'm keeping it under wraps) and like I said, it's just a blog but I have to also look at it from the prospect that I don't know where it could go and maybe at some point I will want to write a book about juicing with recipes, pics, etc, kind of like a cookbook for juicing. I have to say that I do have an uncanny ability to figure out how to blend things and make them good and pictures tend to help a lot too. Anyway, as you all know, I tend to court controversy at least a bit, I like debate, dialogue and critical thinking. That said, I wanted to call my blog The Juicy Jew because the sound goes well and I think it's catchy. It's not going to be a religious blog in any way, like I said, it's only purpose is the catchy similar sound, etc. I also came up with a way to make it an acronym--Joyful Earthy Wellness so as to make it seem less exclusive and whatnot. Here is my issue--Idk how this would be received so I thought this would be a good place to ask since no one else here identifies as a Jew (as far as I know)...would this bother you, would you find it offensive, exclusive, insulting, denigrating, etc? I would just call the blog that and refer to myself as the Juicy Jew which these days is what most who know me call me anyway since I'm so into juicing lately. There will be no religious discussions other than during the holidays I'll likely post a recipe for latkes and what kind of juice will undo their greasy evil, lol. Beyond that, I intend to have a Happy Passover and Happy Easter, Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah feel to the blog when the holidays come around, etc. So bottom line--is the blog name The Juicy Jew bothersome to you and would it keep you from reading and following that sort of blog? Again, please feel free to state your opinion and be honest, I will NOT be upset or offended and will appreciate the honesty of anyone who wants to give their opinion.
Jamison'smama replied: The name is not bothersome to me and would not hinder me from reading it but I don't love it. If you name it The Juicing Jew you could get google hits from a "juicing" search but juicy jew sound like something more of a personal nature
Kaitlin'smom replied: the name is very catchy but I would think it would be more personal than recipies for drinks.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Personally I just hate the word juicy used as an adjective for a person
Kentuckychick replied: I agree... I would go with something more like "The Juicing Jew"... because like she said... who knows what kind of hits you'd get to your site otherwise...
Calimama replied: Kinda sounds.. porn-ish.
No offense.
luvbug00 replied: ITA the jucing jew sounds much better. The other one sounds kinda like a nasty site lol!
cameragirl21 replied: ok, this is not what I expected, so you guys are not bothered with the Jew part of it but you are bothered by the juicy...I do kind of like the double entendre, remember my love for controversy, lol, and also I want to promote the idea that a healthy lifestyle is sexy. The word that my male friends (not boyfriends, just friends) have commonly used to describe me is "ripe" so I kind of liked the word juicy but I will have to think about what you guys said and rethink that part of it. Thanks so much for your honest opinions but let me just understand, so the Jew part of it is not bothersome to you? Because if I do change it to Juicing Jew, I just want to get a feel for if that is going to turn people off due to the religious connotation or the suggestion that this is just for Jews, etc, which is so NOT the image I want to convey.
Kaitlin'smom replied: nope the Jew part does not bother me at all.
luvmykids replied: Being a non-Jew, it doesn't even cross my mind. I guess the question, which you would know the answer to much better, is would it offend Jews? I don't in any way think of it as a derogatory or exclusive term.
I do kind of agree on the juicy part of it. But I've also been accused of having a dirty mind a time or two
CantWait replied: I only have one thought for you...
NO MATTER WHAT YOU CALL IT, NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY IN IT, SOMEONE (cause someone always does), WILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT.
Just go for it.
lisar replied: I have to agree here.
jcc64 replied: I guess it depends on how much traffic you want to encourage. I would think that including "Jew" in the title suggests that the content would have something to do with being Jewish, which would probably lead non-Jewish browsers to conclude the site is not directed at them. Many people wouldn't take the time to figure out that's not the case, kwim? I can't remember the exact statistic, but you only have a second or two to grab someone's attention, and I'm going on the assumption that the more specific your title, the smaller the net you cast.
DVFlyer replied: Juicing Jew > Juicy Jew.
cameragirl21 replied: Thanks, everyone, for your opinions. It never occurred to me that the juicy part of it could be the problem, guess I have some food for thought.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Welllll.if ya want more hits.. porn-sounding name is the way to go...
What about Jewcing Joy? Jewcy Joy?
Nina J replied: I always say Jewish because 'Jew' is often used in a derogatory way. Not always, but I recall times when people used 'Jew' in a not so nice way, hence I always try to say Jewish.
But you yourself being Jewish, I don't think it matters. Although, like Marie said, someone will always have a problem with things. I do not have a problem with it, because it is not in a bad context.
Good luck I don't have a juicer but I did make some juice in the blender today, it was more like a smoothie but not so thick as regular smoothies. I put strawberries, watermelon, wheat grass, lemon sorbet and ice I think I will have to get a juicer though, if you're making a blog Do you ever make ingredients for soups or things in your juicer, or mainly in the blender? I make home made pasta sauce in the blender and things for soups. Could you juice things like onion, lol. I love onion but sometimes dh gets sick of it, and if I could juice it for soups then it would be good. You can't really taste it in certain soups but you know if you've left it out, if you kwim. What about garlic cloves, could you juice them? I don't really like garlic powder, and it is so hard to get garlic cloves to spread evenly through soups because I can't cut them or grate them or crush them good enough Maybe I could juice them.
cameragirl21 replied: Nina, yes, you can juice onions and garlic, just be sure to clean your juicer well before adding fruity things in afterward. I am creating drinks that you juice first and then add certain things like dates and nut butters and whatnot in the blender. I am also coming up with soup and ice cream recipes for the leftover pulp so that you don't have to waste that. It's so funny--I'm so not into cooking but once my creative juices (no pun intended, lol) get flowing I can come up with all sorts of things to make. Btw, I thought about using Creative Juice but it's been done before, in fact there is an advertising company in Miami called Kre8tiv Juice...I don't like anything that's overdone so I figured Juicy Jew is probably not something that's been tried before. Just wondering how it will be received by others who may not be thinking like I am, lol. I actually love the sensual feel to it, it gets people's curiosity and in all fairness, controversy not only sells but it attracts the media if I ever wanted to go that way. My biggest concern I guess is that I wanted to approach juicing companies and perhaps organic fruit and veggie sellers to see if they'll link to my blog, thereby promoting it but I'm afraid they will be concerned about this potential controversy no matter how much it may increase their sales, kwim? On the other hand, I believe a blog should be a reflection of the blogger and let's not kid ourselves, I AM controversial. I thought about Juicy Jen but I think that would be worse, it would be right up there with Linda Lovelace, lol.
My3LilMonkeys replied: TBH, if I saw the Juicy Jew as a blog title I wouldn't be bothered or offended by it at all - but I wouldn't think it was about juicing either and probably skip right over it. The Juicing Jew is better I think.
moped replied: Juicing Jen Juicing Jew Jens Juice Jen the Juicing Jew
MommyToAshley replied: I agree completely. I am not offended by the name at all, but if I saw the title in the search results, I would not click on it because I would think it was geared to those of jewish faith (which I am not). I think you would be limiting your audience.
What about: Juicey Java Jen's Juicey Jems Juices by Jen
Ok... I am not very good at the name thing. But, if you want to appeal to a larger audience then I would leave out the Jewish reference... unless of course, you want to limit your audience to those of the same faith.
