lisar wrote: Okay we gota get dh's dad something for christmas, we have no idea what to get him. He is the type that if wants for something he goes and gets it. He doesnt belive in gift cards and hates those so thats not an option for me. He is a stuck up rich type so I dont have a clue and neither does dh. Can someone give me any ideas as to what to get him??? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Mommy2Isabella replied: humm... thats a tough one!

We have the same problem with DH's mom, we got her a gift card last year for her birthday and she STILL hasn't used it, and her birthday is october. This year we didn't get her anything. Not to mention she is ungreatful ...

Maybe try like a gift basket of little things that he likes to do, all in one basket or something. I don't know if thats too impersonal for you though. I know we are going to do something like that for DH's mom ...

grapfruit replied: coal?

Sorry I know, no help. sleep.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: pictures of the kids, done in a nice frame matted maybe even ingraved to him?

grapfruit replied:
oOo! That's a good idea!

Sorry I'm still no help.....

Oh Wait! Does he like a special food that he doesn't get made a lot? If you cook, maybe you can make it for him. Or take him to a nice restaurant.

See! I can contribute!

lisar replied:
I would love to give him that. Sorry we dont get along very well. We tolerate each other for dh.

Cece00 replied: I think pictures of the kids would be a good idea, too.

grapfruit replied:
I sensed it hug.gif It's ok, there's no law that says you have to like everybody in the world, especially in laws.

On a side note, I gave my brother coal for Christmas one year. (That wasn't the ONLY thing he got from me) He still has it. It's actually shaped like a heart. I found it by the railroad tracks one summer and kept it for him to give on Christmas.

Calimama replied: Digital picture frame with the kids pictures loaded into it?

Crystalina replied: How about one of those family name things. I had a man do that one year for my FIL. You get the family name and it's history and frame it. You can have it printed out on old looking paper. I'm sure you can find a place online to do that.

Just an idea.

redchief replied:
We did this for my parents one year and they LOVED it.

lisar replied:
My problem is that I have until the 15th. They are going to Italy for christmas and leaving on the 16th we are doing christmas with them on the 15th.

grapfruit replied: Lisa, I have to ask, what does your FIL do for a living?? I have my guess, but I'll wait to see if I'm right. B/c I tell you down to the Italy trip he sounds like Cyndi's former boss!!!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: What's he into? Is he a foodie type? Wine guy? Appreciates art? Does he read? I need more...... wink.gif

Okay, so what about some travel books, maybe a "where to eat" in Italy book. REI makes a lot of cool travel gadgets...swiss army knifes and watches, binoculars, hip sack type things, bags to hold your toiletries. Maybe try there. REI Store.

My FIL is loaded too, so it's never easy to find him something. I know he is into tea, gourmet teas. So I bought him "the art of french tea" book from his favorite tea house in Paris. And they sell the actual tea at Williams Sonoma...Just an idea.
