Need help picking out a down comforter

coasterqueen wrote: This inn we stayed at in Simsbury, CT was not only very quaint, but the bed was absolutely COMFORTABLE. OMG, was it ever. I asked Dh to have the bed shipped home to us as is. tongue.gif It was also a very beautiful bed. Anyways, I have always wanted to get a down comforter for my bed, but am terrible at getting the right one. I got a lightweight one for Kylie and it's awful. I bought it online and it's a cheap piece of you-know-what and I thought I was buying a good one.

This is what I need:

a synthetic one because I'm allergic to feathers
medium to light weight
something not really expensive, but I want it to be comfortable and last

Any help would be greatly appreciated smile.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: I got mine at TJMaxx or Marshalls wink.gif
you just have to check in there all the time for shipments

Mommy2Isabella replied: We have a nautica one ... there is company that makes them they are pricey though, i will get back to you with the name my mom gets their catalog!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I got mine a Kohls, well DH got it, it was one sale for $30 at the time and I LOVE it. I had always wanted one and was told you will never go back and when my first one was ruioned (long story) I just did not sleep well and missed it, when he got me this one I was soooo happy, we even have a smaller one for the couch, love it also. I am not sure of the fibers in it I will have to look when I get home.

moped replied: Well why not a really good duvet and cover?

coasterqueen replied:
Ok, that's what I've ALWAYS been confused on. What is the different between them? Teach me, please. biggrin.gif

moped replied:
A duvet is the large cozy white thing - you have to get a seperate cover for it.........

moped replied: Here is a duvet

Here is a cover that will look like a comforter when you are done.

gr33n3y3z replied: Karen check this place out it seems to me you can buy what certain hotels carry as far as bed stuff goes

gr33n3y3z replied: here is another good selection

holley79 replied: I got my duvet and cover at Bed Bath and Beyond.

coasterqueen replied: Lisa,

I am almost considering buying a set from one of those websites that sells the hotel sets. blush.gif Dh told me to go for it, but that's a lot of money.

For those of you who bought them in the store, what "count" did you get, etc? I'm so confused on this stuff. blush.gif

coasterqueen replied: BTW, I was thinking if I bought it in the store it'd either be Macy's or Bed Bath and Beyond.

gr33n3y3z replied: I always buy what feels right

I have 100% Egyptian Cotton 1000 Thread Count
I have any where from 300 and up
But I like the 600 100% Egyptian Cotton best

what did you decide on Karen?

coasterqueen replied:
Lisa, I think we might actually go with bedding from that link you posted on hotel bedding. tongue.gif DH and I both fell in love with the way that bedding felt and really when I priced out getting similar bedding in the store it's about the same if not more. We normally would NEVER spend that much on bedding, but we decided if we get better sleep it's worth it. I toss and turn every night waking up 3 or 4 times a night, some nights I have total insomnia - but if I go sleep on the couch I sleep like a baby. So it's our bed and perhaps our bedding as well. Right now we sleep on cheapy Target sheets.

gr33n3y3z replied: Well get that stuff ordered and have many great nights sleep

redplaydoh replied: We have down comforters, the real feather down... we have a thicker one for winter and a thinner summertime one. We even bought the kids one for their crib when they were babies and they still use them although they're getting a little too small for them.

I know here in Switzerland they sell real feather down comforters with a certain type of covering for people with feather allergies.

We're looking to replace the kids soon and will get one with a cover that is waterproof (meaning vomit and pee proof).

Here the hospitals even have them for the patients. I was so amazed when I saw that!
