Need help - Not sure if I did this right

coasterqueen wrote: Dh is out of town for 8 days and I have not only my two girls, but my neice from Georgia with me so I wanted to have a meal ready for us when we get home. I know when we get home all three of them will be bouncing off the walls and cooking dinner with two like that is difficult so I don't want to imagine what three would be like. tongue.gif

ANYWAYS......I threw in some beef tips, 3 cans of beef mushroom soup and one can of water into a crock pot and put the temp on low. The beef tips were frozen, btw. I started it at about 7:30 this morning. SO when I get home from work and I gonna have something here? I was clueless on what I threw together and if it would be edible when I got home. You think?

My plan was to make some rice, then put the beef tips and some of the soup sauce on top of the rice and then make some kind of steamed veggie and roll.

So should I grab a pizza on my way home or you think what I threw together will be ok? Will it be ready by 5:30 pm or do I have to let it cook longer? blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: sounds like it might be a bit soupy, not sure on that but I would personally cook noodles (thick ones like the no yoke kind) and serve it over that or if the beef tips are not good you still have the noodles, veggie and rolls.

Let me know if it did turn out....

gr33n3y3z replied: sounds good to me

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I have been known to throw frozen meat in crockpot in the morning and it is cooked by the time I get home (usually 6:15). Depending on the cut of meat it may be tough even cooking that long. I agree I would cook noodles instead of rice, because I believe it will be soupy also.

In the future something to try that falls off the bone and is awsome. Get one of the bag and seasoning (I buy the potroast normally) packs. I forget who makes them. In the morning take a pork roast or beef roast (should be thawed) and put in the bag, then I add a bag of small carrots and throw it in. Also add potatoes (if no time to peel them buy the small red ones and leave the peel on) and onions (I usually use 2-3 because my husband loves onions). Mix the seasoning as directed and pour on top of the meat and veggies. Tie the bag up and then put in your oven at 200-225 and let it cook ALL day. It makes the best potroast. My mom taught me to do that. My husband begs me to make it. biggrin.gif

coasterqueen replied: Thanks ladies. I don't have any noodles at home and no time to stop by the store to get some. I think I'll thicken it up with some flour, maybe? Oh well, if the kids don't want to starve they'll eat it. tongue.gif My kids know I can't cook. I'll just have to explain the same to my niece. biggrin.gif cool.gif blush.gif I'm actually dying for some rice anyways. blush.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh Karen I hope you did NOT put flour in it.

anyay rice would be fine, could end up more like rice/beef/mushroom soup.

how did it turn out?

Twelve Volt Man replied: Those poor kids! wink.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Why?

But no I didn't. It was a bit soupy, but it was actually AWESOME. I will definitely do that again, but not put water in there, just the beef mushroom soup. The kids gobbled it up. thumb.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Hey! I resent that! happy.gif happy.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
mainly it would have riouned it.

glad it turned out good though

luvmykids replied: FWIW, if you ever want to thicken a sauce like that, I have a thickener. I'm not sure what it's called but it's specifically for thickening sauces/gravies and keeps them really smooth.

gr33n3y3z replied: actually for lump free gravy just mix the flour with warm water never cold or hot wink.gif or use corn starch mix the same way and it wont lighten the gravy any

lesliesmom replied: DH and I have something called Nutrathick for thickening sauces and what not. It doesn't change the flavor any and works great... I like using it better than flour.

coasterqueen replied: Yes, we do have a thickening sauce as well. I just call it flour because we don't really use anything but that stuff. tongue.gif

Believe it or not I'm good at making sausage gravy. tongue.gif

gr33n3y3z replied:
I like that yummmmm

boyohboyohboy replied: karen, i am glad your dinner turned out great. i throw just about everything in the crock pot!
i also have a fast easy receip..we take already made meatballs, bought at the store, and put 2 cans mushroom soup mix in a pot and warm it, then just dump the entire thing over egg noodles, its fast and the kids love it!
i thought i would share since you are restricted with time after work for meals.

i also add chicken breasts and mushroom soup mix to the crock pot, no water, and just let it cook all day and dump that on biscits or noodles, or rice, thats easy and always a hit too.

chicken legs in bbq sauce is easy too.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Karen, try http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/recipeindex.htm

it's very simple...if you can read, you can cook.

No fuss recipes, simple ingredients.
