Natural labor induction? - Possible TMI

PrairieMom wrote: I have a question. cool.gif
Can anyone tell me about natural ways to induce labor? Not that I am going to try, but now that I am full term and off my meds DH and I decided to DTD. The next day was the day that I had contractions every 3 min.
so, does semen cause contractions? I thought It contained a hormone that would soften the cervix, but that was it.
As of now poor DH is so scared he "broak" me that he won't come near me! rolling_smile.gif so, was it his fault? laugh.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied: I agree that sex can make labor faster. I was in labor and did the deed and it seemed to really hope. He can't hurt you or the baby. Once your water breaks though the sperm can cause infection! HTH. Good luck again!!

I also noticed that sperm can make the contractions come faster and closer together! wink.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: wub.gif I asked this same question to my ob gyn because I was so uncomfortable and wanted to bring on labor, and he told me that sex doesnt start contractions, I had heard that same thing about there being a hormone in the semen that caused it to soften and the dr told me no,
I wish it were true, but it appears on only mother nature can get it started.

with my first preg. I had been on tributaline, (brethane) for months to stop contractions, and once i was off it about a week, the contractions started again, I also had been doing as much walking as possible to get it going... I had my first son at 34 and 1/2 weeks and my second at 37 weeks 3 days.

Good luck!

luvbug00 replied: I thought so .. brad and I did and mya was born the next day...

BAC'sMom replied: Well with the first two PG I tried that method and it seemed to work. I went into labor within about 4-6 hours. It’s work a shot! biggrin.gif Good luck!

PrairieMom replied: I say we should go for it, but he is scared to. We had quite a dry spell, (about 5 months, since I was on terbutaline) and it is only going to get longer. I say, he should enjoy it while he can. laugh.gif

lisar replied: I was told it works. Dont know if it does. I was also told that stimulation of the nipples can make you contract. But your not having that problem. Sorry I am no help.

A&A'smommy replied: lol thats SO like a man tongue.gif here is what I found

Sex to Induce Labor

Semen contains prostaglandins. Prostaglandins cause the cervix to "ripen", or soften and prepare to open. While it is debatable whether there are enough prostaglandins in semen to have any real effect, it is not a terrible way to keep hope alive and while away the last weeks of your pregnancy. Another great side effect is the fact that orgasms produce oxytocin, the hormone that causes contractions. So, between the two, there is a pretty good case for the cure for pregnancy.

and this is where is came from http://www.maternitycorner.com/mcmag/articles/preg0007.html

luvmykids replied: i was on the same meds with the twins, and once I quit the doctor said that resuming normal activities after bedrest/meds would start labor. He thought he was warning me to take it easy but really he gave me ideas to get it done! I'd say lots of physical activity then, walking, cleaning, etc.

PrairieMom replied:
Well, we went on a long walk yesterday, and I cleaned the house from top to bottom today. I am about to go out and play some more, so hopefully that will help. My contractions have slowed way down now. rolleyes.gif i know that she will get here when she gets here, I'm really just 37 weeks, so I know I could have along way to go. but I really want to have her while my sister is visiting. happy.gif Don't worry, I won't do anything crazy! wink.gif laugh.gif

PrairieMom replied: He chickened out. laugh.gif blush.gif
I have a Dr's appt today, and I "Get" to work all weekend, so hopefully that will push me over the edge! thumb.gif

CantWait replied: Here's hoping for ya.
DTD did it for me both times. Unfortunetly the first time I was still 5 weeks away from my due date dry.gif

MyBabeMaddie replied: My friend told me that once the baby drops you shouldn't have sex anymore? Also does it make a difference if you have sex a lot during pregnancy or not at all to help induce labor, I guess what I'm trying to say is we have DTD maybe 3 times the past 6 months so would sex at the end stimulate labor because there has been a lack of it or would having sex every day now until the end help induce labor, I know sex inducing is debateable and all but I wanna know what ya'll think if you can piece together what i'm trying to say. I'm a bit tongue tied

kelsi12 replied: Hi!! I feel ur pain!! My Dh and I DTD last week and Ava was born about 48 hr later!I believe it works! Good Luck! smile.gif
