NIP
PrairieMom wrote: Well, its official. I hit a milestone yesterday. I Nursed in public. I have never done that before, and I actually ended up doing it twice. I'm not a huge fan of it, and didn't really have a choice, so I just bit the bullet and did it. Now at least I know i can do it if I have to.
holley79 replied: It's amazing what we will do for our babes isn't it??? I NIP also and it was deifantly an experience. How's The Girl?
Kaitlin'smom replied: WOOO HOOO WTG. I use to NIP all the time (once I get comfortable with it). Most the time people had no clue that I was. CONGRATS!
PrairieMom replied: SHe has been a little screamin meanine lately. She is super gassy, and really, when she isn't sleeping, she is screamin. I'm pretty sure I have an over supply problem, becuase a lot of time when she latches she couchs and chokes, and sometimes she even gags. I also think she is over eating. I got out the snuggly and am going to try baby wearing today to see if that helps. I guess that this is all just part of the joy of parenting right?
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Hope the snuggli works for you and that girly chills out! Congrats on NIP!
MyLuvBugs replied: Congrats!! It's a little awkward at first, huh? I'm not a huge fan of it either, but when the kids hungry, the kids hungry.
Bee_Kay replied: Glad you broke the ice with NIP! I don't understand how ppl can have a problem with seeing mothers NIP
When a baby is hungry.. they are hungry RIGHT NOW!!!
Hopefully Alexis will get into the groove of it and her gassiness will get better!!
KingMom replied: I didn't ever get the nerve last time, I always pumped and took bottled milk with me OR would nurse/pump in the back of our Explorer since people couldn't see in teh windows.
Maybe I'll have enough courage to do it this time and won't have to lug the pump and bottles with me.
PrairieMom replied: The thing is that I personally am uncomfortable with people NIP. (No bashng) It just makes me uncomfortable. Not that its wrong, or that I don't think people should do it. I just feel weird being around it. so for me to do it, was really something! I usually go out to the car too, but this time it just wasn't an option.
Bee_Kay replied:
Well then.... it sounds as though you are adjusting!!

amynicole21 replied: Good for you!
Need any pointers for the oversupply?
PrairieMom replied: Sure. I read up on it on kellymom. It didn't really seem that helpful.
CantWait replied: Good for you!!!!!!!!
amynicole21 replied: Any advice I would offer probably came from kellymom...
What I used to do was spray into a cloth diaper when my letdown started. It didn't resolve the problem, but helped a bit with the choking.
Also, you may try block feeding. I think it is supposed to help with oversupply as well as a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. Nurse only on one side per feeding. Nurse on side A, then again on side A, then on side B, then again on side B, etc.
It all evens out in time, though it's frustrating I'm sure!
PrairieMom replied:
I think I will try that. It seems like she needs to latch to get me going, then my milk just flows like crazy! poor thing!
Jamison'smama replied: I had to block feed as well. It really worked to cut down on the choking and gulping that Jack did.
Congrats on NIP! I did it a lot and I love to see other moms NIP it just reinforces the fact that we have the absolute right to do that!
PrairieMom replied: I'm thinking now that the problem is just on my left side. Why would that be? I've been alternating sides every time. Shouldn't my supply be the same on both sides?
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Congrats on the NIP!! Although I NIP, I kwym about being uncomfortable around it. I'm the same way. It's just awkward to me for some reason. Not that I don't think people should do it...that's not it at all.
Sorry about the oversupply. You will get it corrected...it all takes time. Glad The Girl is doing well otherwise.
amynicole21 replied: I always had much more milk in the right one... weird. I don't know why It's normal though.
PrairieMom replied: I guess it figures, I have 2 different shaped eyes, and one ear sticks out more than the other, so why shouldn't my boobs be different too?
KingMom replied: LOL, that was great
coasterqueen replied: I have more in my right side too. Weird.
coasterqueen replied: I had to do block feeding w/Megan. It really made a difference when she was younger and doing the same as your little one.
MommyToAshley replied: Congrats on your milestone!!! I am very supportive of NIP, but for some reason I could never bring myself to do it. I always went to the car or a private room, depending on where I was at the time. I wish I could have been more like you.
Amanda replied: Congratulations!!!! That first time is such a big step!!! My first time was over 5 years ago and I can still remember every detail.
