NEW BOOK FOR

TANNER'S MOM wrote: Lets decide?

coasterqueen replied: I'll go for it. Although I can't PROMISE I'll do this, lol. I'll make an attempt to go buy it and read it but I don't know if I can get it all read. How long do we have to read it? tongue.gif A month?

Kaitlin'smom replied: I am all for it

TANNER'S MOM replied: Ok guys I am bidding on Ebay for the book "The 5 People You Meet In Heaven"

Looks like there are alot of different books out there. My current bid is 2.50 plus 3.00 shipping...NOt to pricey..about the same as a paperback.

Kaitlin'smom replied: question when should we all have it by? and how long are we gonna have to read it?

mammag replied: I just got it used on Amazon.com for $9.64 shipped. I looked at Ebay but the ones they had were already being bid on so I didn't want to be bidding over any of you. Still a pretty good price for a Like New hardcover.

It says it will be here in 4-14 days. horray.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: Lets collectively pick a start date... I think it may take up to 2 weeks for some ..including me to get books shipped!

So I think we just need to answer when we get our books.

I am thinking a month to read. I know some of us will read faster than others...but a month works for me? I think everyone should be able to read in that amount of time!

Anyone Else?

Kaitlin'smom replied: okay I will look for the book and let you know when I got it...ya a month sounds good to read it.

I so miss reading and just recently got back into it

Kaitlin'smom replied: got mine on overstock.com for $10.89 shipped brand new thumb.gif

should have mine next week

coasterqueen replied: I'll go look at BN this weekend and let you know wink.gif.

TANNER'S MOM replied: I would like to take a moment and talk about reading. I know some of you guys don't have time to read, and I wanted to invite you to join us at anytime you feel like it. I understand the guilt that comes with taking time away from your family, household etc to sit and do nothing but reading! I would like to give you some thoughts.

1. In school Teacher's press upon parents the importance of Reading. If you child likes to read, they get better grades, show more creativity, and seem to be the higher achievers.

2. Children learn by example. If you gripe at your child to finish reading, yet he never sees you enjoying it, he is less likely to make it apart of his life.

3. Me TIME. It's ok to do something for youself. It's OK to take a moment from your day to expand your mind, and get completely lost in a moment. Whether it be a love scene in a book, or a vacation you are reading about. Sometimes, it is better to just enjoy a chapter. Then to turn on the TV..

I hope if you find the time you wil join us. Maybe not every book, or everytime. But just try it.

I am really looking forward to this book club! I hope we all learn something from each other. I think it will be neat!

Kaitlin'smom replied: Well I must say i have never been a member of a book club, so i am not sure what to expect but I am looking foward to it smile.gif I might not be able to real all of them but I hope to, plus it a great way to expand my libary with things I might not have gotten. I have a few favoite authors and tend to stick with them.

Oh and how will book be pick? are we just going with what out now or will we look at some that have already been out?

TANNER'S MOM replied:
Well, I think we should each month take a vote. I think we should throw out some suggestions...and vote. I know we have had people say that like both fiction and non fiction...

But I think the vote should come in handy. Or we can get just take turns until every person is able to pick a book????

You guys let me know how you want to do it?

Kaitlin'smom replied: a vote is good

TANNER'S MOM replied:

chloe&tysmommy replied: I think this book club is a neat idea!!! I used to enjoy reading books when I was younger and now all I read are parenting books....it would be a nice change to get into some different books!

Your doing a great job Tannersmom thumb.gif I may have to join in thumb.gif

maestra replied: I think I will give it a try too. Even though I'm a teacher and hound my families to read, the last two books I read were one each during the week before my children were born. Isn't that sad? rolling_smile.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: Well I'm all for it! I love to read! thumb.gif I'll look tonight at the bookstore in the mall and then price it online.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: This sounds good to me. I will be off trying to find the book today. Hopefully borders has it. There are no B&Ns on the island. sad.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Okay so I just ordered it on Amazon.com. They have a bunch of copies and a lot of them are under 6 dollars. I had to choose the faster delivery because it takes forever for stuff to get out here.

amymom replied: I've never done a book club. I've read this book before but...... it is such a good read I will get it again and read it. Thanks for starting this. When do we start reading? And what do we do when we have read some?

TANNER'S MOM replied:
Well, I think it will take a while for the people who don't have the book, including me to get it shipped.

So, I am asking for reply's for when everyone gets the book and gets started.

I wanted to about a post a week with discussion on the back. I know that everyone here will read at different speeds. I was wanting feed back on how much to talk about at a time. I don't want to get ahead of anyone. I think we will play this part by ear? And I will need lots of input.

And at the end of the month I think we will a nice summary and decussion, talk about the things we liked and didn't.

I think the neatest part will be to see how everyone can read the same thing, and get a completely different view..

Ok, guys I am not the BOSS of the book club, so jump in here and help me. And if I get off track then let me know.

I was thinkin if this does take off, and people do like it. After a while we may ask for a forum. But we won't bother them at first..agreed?

Maddie&EthansMom replied: They also have this book at Sam's. I think it is around 9 or 10 dollars. wink.gif I will probably check it out at the library. I don't think it was published in paperback at all.

Mel ITA with everything you said about reading. My dad always has his nose stuck in a book. He is one of the most intelligent people I know and that is where I got my love of reading. I'm glad so many of you are going to atleast try to read with us. thumb.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied:
Thanks Aimee, I tell my children that reading is simply watching a movie with your mind..and that is what it was for me as a child. And it has been a crutch and an enjoyment, comfort and pleasure in my life.

Dh says I use it to ignore him.....well only every now and then!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'd rather read than watch a movie anyday. I love the imagination it creates. Even when they make a movie from a book...I always like the book better. biggrin.gif

Josie83 replied: Hah that's so weird I just finished this book the other week. I'll just talk about with you when you all do! xx

3_call_me_mama replied: I'm in, I actually started reading this over xmas but didn't make time to finish it. SO i'll start over and make myself read it this time.

coasterqueen replied: I got my copy at BN for $15.05 total. I know it was more expensive but I did myself proud by actually going and getting it. tongue.gif I'll order any other books we do to get the cheapest cost.

DH looked at me and just rolled his eyes when I bought it. He said "are you that bored you have enough time to read hun? I have a million other things that need to be done". tongue.gif I told him I'd read it while I go pee, since I go to the bathroom like 20 times a day to pee these days. rolleyes.gif I figure I can get through a few pages a day that way. laugh.gif That's about the only time I do have to read, except when I get online here. blush.gif

mammag replied: I got my book today and read the first paragraph and now I'm even more excited. I can't wait to really get into it.

Jamison'smama replied: Picked my copy up from the library yesterday--so I'm on my way.....

mammag replied: Okay, I finished the book. I can't wait to start discussing it. Hope I remember what happened by then....... wink.gif
