NE1 here have this pop up tent/tunnel toy?

coasterqueen wrote: NE1 have this? Our therapist wants us to make an obstacle course for Megan to use during times when she just can't cope with her environment (or to do right before we go into such a situation). I was looking for something cheap and hoping this would work. My question is can an adult fit through this?

moped replied: Yes we have it and it is a PITA unless it is outside - and an adult can BARELY fit through it
I don't like ours and if it wasn't too much to ship it I would but it is large.......

coasterqueen replied:
why is it a PITA if I may ask? happy.gif Just that it's big?

Kaitlin'smom replied: I think Ashley (rod and dee dee's daughter) has it, I am pretty sure Kaitlin has played in it, I never tring going though it so I dunno about an adult fitting though it or not, but it is big.

moped replied:
Yeah it is big and intrusive and my least favorite toy in the world

Maddie&EthansMom replied: 'Some friends of ours have it. It is pretty big, but it folds up nicely and stores well under the sofa or in a closet. wink.gif

I say if it is something that will help her, go for it! thumb.gif

Jamison'smama replied: We have it and for the price it is fine but there are better ones out there. I don't like the way ours connects--velcro straps. The kids like it but I haven't pulled it out in quite a while. Are they just wanting to have her use her large muscles or is it for compression--I am just curious why the obstacle course?

boyohboyohboy replied: let me see if i can find a pic of ours, its large and i can get it in, and it folds up easy we keep it behind the couch..i dont mind it. its not made of strong material though, but has lasted so far thru two boys..

we dont have the tube part...but we have three pieces that fit in front of this tent with velcro..
does she need the tube part? are you afraid of her going in and needing you to get her out?

coasterqueen replied:
They want us to use it for deep pressure and getting her to deal with the different "environments". I'm supposed to use bean bags, etc -- basically simulating what they have at the therapist's office. When she has trouble dealing with things (excessive tantrums, withdrawal, etc) I'm supposed to use the tunnel course to get her out of the mood she's in and concentrate on her body, etc. I dunno, she explained it better than I can. happy.gif

coasterqueen replied: Brenda and Stacy -

Did you have to do much at home in the way of therapy with your kids? Our OT is wanting us to do quite a few things - for instance the swing they use in OT she wants us to simulate one of those at home. wacko.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We have this one and bought the tunnel attachment. I can't find the whole set on TrU, but I think we bought it all together there for around $60. The boys love it and they both can fit in it with lots of room. I can fit through the tunnel, but it's not easy. I can definitely fit in the tent, sitting of course. And both pieces fold up really easy and have their own tent material bags. I just throw it in storage or in a closet or under the bed.

Jamison'smama replied:
We do a few things at home for Jamison. We do the therapeutic listening, we simulate the enclosed swing almost every night when she finishes her bath both kids get swung in the big towels. We use the brush when she gets wiggy about textures. We bought a bounce house (199.00 at TRU) last year and it was a great investment. It is great for compression. Has your therapist suggested a compression vest? Jamison used one at her last session and didn't seem to mind it a bit.

I am always looking for new and compact large muscle activities. I have a friend with the mini-trampoline Jump Smart and I thought it would be good for Jama when she comes home after school and needs to MOVE!

boyohboyohboy replied:
Karen, our therapist, had us do some deep pressure touch, and we followed instructions on feeding, and some on behavior, but she never asked us to buy anything. she always came with things to the house to try. she used some heavy weighted blankets for instance when he was little, to get him used to being in his bed, and his issues with clothes touching him.
the little vibrating star even, that was used to stim. his mouth she got for him.
I do remember her giving me ideas on food items to try, and i bought those, but she never asked us to get large purchases, she even bought me copies of books to read at the time..
the one you recommeded to me, on SID she had and let me borrow..

but our therapist didnt work out of a hosp either, she was thru early intervention..
i dont know if that makes a difference.

coasterqueen replied: Our therapist uses the swing, ball pit, and scooter along with bean bags, brushes and a tunnel type course.

She recommended several things for us to do at home. One thing she wants us to do is 1/2 way inflate a beach ball and stick it in Megan's chair. It's supposed to help her eat better.?. We haven't tried that yet, hope to this weekend.

She also recommended the swing, a bean bag chair, an oral massager (which I have yet to find the one she wants me to get) and now the tunnel course. We've also used the weighted blankets.

Brenda - she has not talked to us about the compression vest yet. She has talked to us about Omega 3's and B-multi for her to be used for sensory issues. Has yours suggested that? Is Jama taking anything like that? We've started the girls on the Omega 3's, but not the B-multi yet.

I did talk to the therapist a few weeks ago about the trampoline because I thought that would be good for Megan too and she said go for it. She said that would be great for her. So Megan is getting that from Santa this year. happy.gif

I assume you just use the bouncy house in the warmer months, right? So are you looking for the trampoline for the colder months? Just curious. We might have to look into the bouncy house - good idea. She has given Ryan the green light to rough house as much as Megan wants and she wants it a lot so they do it. tongue.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: this is the star that we got to use for oral stim.

coasterqueen replied:
Thanks Stacy. We had that one, but what she wants us to use is a regular hand massager that has 3 or 4 legs - actually the one she has is a lady bug. Megan really likes it so I'm looking for one that looks like a bug. laugh.gif I'm not having any luck yet.
