My mother made me so angry!!! - Breastfeeding related

coasterqueen wrote: This weekend at Kylie's 1st birthday party, my mother just made me so angry. Kylie already wasn't nursing very much becuz she was so busy, but at one point I could really tell she was ready to nurse. My mom goes "Kylie you look hungry". I said "yeah, I know, I need to try to feed her". So my mom picks her up and puts her in her high chair. I said "MOM, I can't feed her while she is in her high chair". Mom replied "Kylie wants REAL food, not your food". I was about to scream, but didn't with 50 some people at her party. So she continued to ignore me and went to get her REAL food. I just went over, took her out of the high chair and sat down to nurse her. My mom came back and said "She is a year old. You should not force her to nurse. There comes a time, Karen, when YOU need to grow up and realize that your baby is growing up and NEEDS people food".

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Okay, I feel better now that I vented. She just makes me so angry sometimes.

amynicole21 replied: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! mad.gif I hate when people try to tell me what my baby needs! I'm glad you didn't give in though. I guess it's best to ignore stupid comments - there is just no way to educate some people when they are set in their ways.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: OMG some people just don't understand! I'm so sorry that you went through that, but I'm so happy that you stuck to you guns and that you nursed her anyway! GOOD FOR YOU! And despite what your mother thinks yes she still needs you!

supermom replied: You can tell your mom smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif from me - that is SO silly, especially since she is only a year old - of course, what really kills me is that if it was a bottle, they probably wouldn't say something - teehee.....

Hang in there, we all understand......and we also know that it's GOOD for her!!

MomToMany replied: smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif Here's to your mom! It's good you know what's right for your daughter. You have plenty of support here!

My mom's the same way, but she doesn't come right out and say it. She gives hints and *suggestive* opinions sometimes, but I just ignore it.

horray.gif horray.gif Good for you for nursing her anyway!! I don't stand up for myself enough, so I'm glad you did!!

Guest_jem0622 replied: Wow, she needs the big frying pan for that one! WTG on taking her out and nursing her! Go Mommy!

My dear mother has told me that I should wean Gabe too b/c she weaned my brother at 11.5 mos. I just let her talk but don't make a deal of arguing it. To each his own.

aspenblue1 replied: That is awful... I hate when people tell me what to do with my baby. My MIL has tried to get me to quit nursing since I had Isabella. I can't believe so many people still believe that nursing is a bad thing to do.

MommyToAshley replied: I've gotten hints that it is time to wean Ashley, but no one has said anything to me directly. LOL.

But, good for you... glad you nursed her anyways!

Kaitlin'smom replied: smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif to your mom!

good for you nursing her anyway. and Duh to your mom if she did not want to nurse she would have fought you! Some people just have ther opinions on everything and they think they are right!

I want to go at least 1 year with Kaitlin hopefully more, it will all depend on her, no one is gonna tell me to stop!

paradisemommy replied: My mother is the exact same way...so I can totally relate - when I went back home for a visit (they live in Washington and I live in Hawaii) for the 3 weeks that I was there I had to listen to her over and over again telling me that I need to stop already. I was ready to scream but had to bite my tongue...

smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif smash.gif to BOTH our moms!!!!

WTG for ignoring her and doing what you wanted..that's what I did too!! rolling_smile.gif

shelrae00 replied: I thought I was the only one getting comments about it being time to wean. My best guy friend Dan is driving himself nuts worrying about when I am gonna wean. Everytime I say something about feeding Aarynn he says "when are you gonna start weaning, She's old enough for you to wean now, ect. " And especially since I have had to give up dairy in the last month because of her allergy people cannot understand why I don't just wean her instead of going without dairy.

I was on the phone with my mom a few weeks ago and nursing Sarynn and my mom says "she's starting to get too big to nurse". WHAT? Since when? She is not even a year yet. That is alright. I just say we will wean when we are ready and move on in the conversation. People who aren't confortable with it want you to stop so they can be comfortable around you again. Too Bad!!!

momma2jenna replied: wacko.gif Jenna Cate is 5 1/2 mos. old, about a month ago, I was at my mom's (she didn't bf any of her 3), I said something about the baby fussing, and that she must be hungry. Mom replied "yeah, she wants some REAL food!"
I just rolled my eyes and popped out a titty! HAH! showed her didn't I.
