My lil one is sick - ~~Croupe
Mommybear wrote: My 9 month old son has he croupe. I was up with him from 11 til 630 this morning. God am I tired. This is the third time this year and his asthma acts up real bad when he gets it. I ended up rocking him all night in the rocking chair and if I tried to put him down he started to go into another attack everytime he is lying down. He has been sleeping well with both his naps today but for future reference anyone have any advice to give for the croupe.
DansMom replied: Oh, poor little one!! I don't have advice, but lots of sympathy. I hope you can both get some good sleep tonight.
MommyToAshley replied: I am sorry, hope he is feeling better. I don't have any experience with croupe either.

gr33n3y3z replied: Elevate his crib mattress so his head is higher than his feet you can use a towel or 2 or buy a wedge at a med. store I hope he feels better and you get some sleep
kimberley replied: poor thing i hope he is better soon! jacob got it when he was a baby. we would turn the hot water on and steam the bathroom and sit in there. he also slept elevated in his infant carrier. there was no other way for him to sleep.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: What I was always told to do is turn on the shower really hot and let the bathroom get real steamy. Stay in there for awhile and then immediately walk into the cold air & it should break it. It worked with Maddie and of course I used a humidifier on her at night while she slept. I hope he feels better soon!
mummy2girls replied: Also my ped said to make a home mad tent with sheets and then have a cool mist humidifier in there with the child. I did that with jenna once and it helped! But because your child has asthmas i would ask your ped if it is ok to so this. because with asthmas (depending how severe the asthma is) a cool mist humidifier can be dangerous.
redchief replied: I was going to mention a humidifier... If he's really bad, run the shower and bring him in the bathroom with the door closed. I did that more nights than I can remember with Rick.
For asthmatic and allergy prone children most Peds recommend a warm air humidifier (less chance of molds atomizing into the air).
Hope you're little guy feels better and you get some needed rest too!
coasterqueen replied: Poor guy . I hope he gets feeling better real soon!
Mommybear replied: Well he does a little better during the day but by like 3 in the afternoon he gets bad again so I am taking him to the peds today. They are talking about putting him on Orapred. its a steriod. a small version of prednisone. It helped last tim,e. Wish us luck.
ctymom replied: I'm sorry to hear your little one is sick. Coughing fits seem to be worse at night. One of my sons has asthma and when it acts up and he coughs alot... it's always worse at night. Hopefully he gets well soon.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: AH poor little baby! I hope he feels better soon! I know when Claudia had croupe the doctor told us to run a hot shower with the bathroom door closed and just sit with her in the steam.
loveydad replied: My kids have had that several times. Usually i have them sleep in their carseats (if they're older, there should be a way to lean a conversible carseat back a bit) i also took showers with them or let them sit in the bathroom while the water ran. try giving clear liquids once he can breathe good again. a humidifier is a really good idea. Make sure you don't give him asprin though.
Also when my son had it last year in the cold weather I took him outside all bundled up and let him breathe in the the cold air for a few minutes (making sure to keep him nice and warm). My doctor suggested it and it really works for us.
Mommybear replied: We went to the pediatrician today. They put him on Amoxicillian. Its definately the croupe and a tiring one at that but he went to bed on time tonight so hopefully by tomorrow eve he will be feeling alot better. Thank you everyone for all the advice and sorrows. I am getting through it.
