My jaw is extrememly sore.... - i'm a little worried...

so anyways I was fooling around online to see what it could be... note to all - my mother has this now and then as well, her friend has it too - it comes and goes, apparently it's hereditary.

But anyways - back to me fooling around online - I was looking at "lockjaw", because that's the term easiest to remember...and while reading, i saw that it can be cause by a wound, and by touching contaminated dirt, and it's the organisms that attack the nervous system etc... so i'[m thinking... hmmm.... needle wound...i transplanted some cherry tomato plants... now my jaw and neck is stiff...

yikes!!!!! If it hasn't settle down some tomorrow, i'm going to have to go to the hospital for possible tetanus infection.

Unless someone can tell me to ease my mind by saying it's a normal hereditary condition, like my mom thinks it is.

CantWait replied: Rocky, are you up to date on your vaccinations, if so you should be fine I believe. Hope it's nothing serious. I would make an appointment with your doctor, or probably even your dentist since they deal with the jaw.

No, I'm not. Which is one of the reasons why I'm so worried. If it's nothing like tetanus, I'd be more likely going to see an oral surgeon, in case it's something as relatively simple as I need a root canal or something.

I don't think it's trismus, which I think is what my mom has, because that usually happens over a long period of time. Mine was from one day to the next.

redchief replied: Tetanus is "lockjaw." They're the same thing. If you're not up to date on your shots I think you should see a doc right away!

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Can you believe I still haven't gone? Well ok I did... but you should have seen the PEOPLE there. OMG - I wasn't about to wait over four hours just to be seen. NO WAY! It's not as sore as earlier though, it's moved over a little more towards my ear too. Ah well...if it hurts still tomorrow.... right away to emerg....
