My in-laws are so crazy. - Vent/rant/whine.....

kit_kats_mom wrote: Well, I've received one big box full of presents for Katherine. Inside, there were 2 dolls, a beanie dog and a push toy/walker thing.

Ok, that's fine & I know it's the thought that counts but OMG! The toys were all second hand from a consignment store and they are all filthy! It will take me an hour to get them all clean. I mean dirrrrrrrty! I'm all about saving $ & getting toys on the cheap but geez, at least I'd clean them, make sure that they work & perhaps make sure that they are age appropriate. The walker is for a beginning walker...not a two year old. mad.gif The dolls both have ink all over their faces and their hair is all matted, the clothes are frayed and the one that talks, doesn't talk because her battery is dead. She makes this creepy moaning laugh instead. ohmy.gif

I probalby sound like a spoiled brat but it really seems like they went into a consignment store with $5 and grabbed the first thing they saw & tossed them in a box. Not what I'd expect for a grandparent to do for their first and only grand-daughter. wacko.gif It's the thought that counts but I makes me feel like they didn't put much thought into it. GRRR

At least my mom is coming through with something off of her wish list. She's bought her the kid sized rocker from the Cracker barrel. K loves those things! wub.gif

amynicole21 replied: Holy cow! That is bizarre blink.gif I agree, seems like a last minute attempt to get something - anything - out in time for her birthday. That or just a lack of common sense!

Guest replied: Are they really poor? its the thought that counts but that is gross! lol
funny but not funny!

kit_kats_mom replied:
I know! Nope he's a tax accountant so he makes decent $. I don't know what the deal is. they are just nuts. I think it's kind of funny too but I sure hope they get their act together before K is older and gets her feelings hurt.

DansMom replied: My mom is crazy about finding deals in thrift stores and such---but she does always take the trouble to get stuff that's in good condition and clean it up and all that, and she looks for stuff that is right for his age and interests. You should not feel at all guilty for feeling the way you do! Gently used is one thing; tattered, dirty and broken is another.

Guest replied:
what may happen is when she gets older they may get their feelings hurt
she may say to them why are you always sending me such JUNK? lol

MommyToAshley replied: OMG -- I can't believe that. Would they really want their granddaughter to play with dirty, nasty toys? Gross! Or, do they just expect you to clean them. wacko.gif Like you said, there is nothing wrong with getting a good deal on used toys, but I can't believe they would send dirty, tattered toys for their granddaughter's birthday.

I would pull a used, written-on piece of paper- all wrinkled and wadded up - out of the trash and write a thank you note on it. Maybe they will get the hint. emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

My2Beauties replied: Eew! I'm all about buying second hand clothes and what not in good condition but that is just absurd, used is one thing...dirty and used is another! mad.gif

KatieLeigh79 replied: Sounds familiar, my MIL was here 2 weeks (left sunday) and for a gift they took JR to a garage sale and let him pick out a teddybear - not bad on their part, only cost them .25, but it was so beat up when they left I tossed it out... sad thing is last we heard from them he has over 4 million in retirement funds (and they are considering that low!) and she claimed she paid for something of ours (had to rent a generator for the weekend as we lost all power from a nasty storm) so I wrote her a 54.00 check to cover it, and today it came out of our account because she just had them charge the account number we left when we picked up the rental - not bad for walking out with 54.00 from your son and daughter in law... took some guts if you asked me! mad.gif

Boys r us replied: LOL!!! OMG!!!!!! DeeDee had the perfect response! I'd do it in a heartbeat!

THAT is INSANE!!!! Funny as H3LL b/c of the oddity of it all..but insane none the less!

kimberley replied: ohmy.gif ok, i do love a bargain and love yard sales and thrift shops but come on!! i would never send dirty toys to any child! it doesn't sound like they put any thought into the gift dry.gif are you or DH gonna say anything to them?

Josie83 replied:
I totally agree, what is going on? That sounds harsh? I think I would have preferred to have been sent nothing at all!! xx

Kaitlin'smom replied: I am sorry but I would have to say soemthing, that is just wrong, groose and very tacky. I am all for used items but come on that is just wrong to send something like that to a child mad.gif my MIL love to go yard saling and usually buys thing for Kaitlin but she cleans them up and wont by things in that condition. HOW VERY RUDE OF THEM an card and $5 would have been sooo much better.

coasterqueen replied: I think there's nothing wrong with consignment shop/yard sale toys but if my parents were to do something like that I'd hope they would clean it up first. OMG!

I'm used to Kylie getting gifts that aren't age appropriate though. rolleyes.gif My grandma got Kylie a cute doll (brand new) and then brought over FIVE grocery bags of puzzles that are made for older kids/adults to do. Oh and she had done them all herself first. That's fine, but why would she give a two year old puzzles that are made for an older kid/adult to do. dunno.gif There are like 30 puzzles that are just sitting in my closet now! wacko.gif

ediep replied: ugh, what a shame!! That is gross. I would probably just toss everything in the trash....that really is bizarre.

mummy2girls replied: thats insane!!!!! Come one how rude. consighnment shopping is not that bad of thing but geez clean the toys before giving them to a child.. GRRRRRR. My sister is cheap but not that cheap rolling_smile.gif
