My baby has strep
mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: Ugh. I cancelled all playdates today because Wesley was up at 5am just miserable. He has green stuff oozing out of his nose and he isn't eating much. Cranky and wouldn't let me put him down. He has had a clear runny nose for days, but no fever. So I have continued to take him out not knowing he was REALLY sick. Poor thing. Took him to the ped this morning and they tested him, and sure enough, he has strep. So they put him on amox and we'll see what happens. Anyone know how long we have to stay in-doors until he is better? I think he has to take the amox for 10 days, but a friend of mine said they are safe after 48 hours on an antibiotic (meaning he isn't contagious after that). I need to take Wil to school on Thursday, and of course Wesley comes along, so I'm trying to figure out how long I need to keep Wesley away from others. (I forgot to ask this at the ped's office).
bawoodsmall replied: Oh Rae, what a bummer that he has strep. Our kids are in child care and they tell me that either 48 hrs or 4 doses. Hope he is feeling better soon. Give him lots of love, that always helps.
gr33n3y3z replied: I hope Wesley feels better soon
boyohboyohboy replied: i always thought it was three days on oral antibiotics. poor guy, hope he feels better soon.
Calimama replied: Aw poor thing. I hope he's feeling better soon.
PrairieMom replied: I think its 24 hours. but I'm not sure
Today i had the same problem, I had to get Ben to preschool with out infecting everyone with our RSV. I ended up taking him a titch late and just standing at the end of the hall and watching him go into his classroom instead of actually going in with him like I usually do, then after class I showed up a bit early and had one of the ladies in the office go to his class to get him. his hallway is usually filled with moms with infants and toddlers, and I didn't want to be carrying Al through there with her coughing and snotting all over everything.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Should I keep Wil out of school you think? At least until next week?
ETA: Tara, I totally had the same thing happen this morning, I feel awful. I took Wesley into the classroom, even plopped him down on the floor next to other kids, played with some of their toys. Wil had to use the potty first thing when we arrived, so the teacher asked I take him. So I left Wesley sitting there and when I picked him up, he had this really snotty nose.
Do you all think I should call his teacher and tell her? I'm so ashamed. And maybe it's worth keeping Wil out of school just in case he has it too. I don't know.
kimberley replied: poor baby! i hope he is better soon.
strep always knocked me out for about 2 weeks but i am not sure if you are contagious the whole time. sorry no help.
PrairieMom replied: is he sick too? I wouldn't unless he is showing symptoms.
luvmykids replied: Did they test Wil too? I thought the rule for antibiotics was 24 hrs as well, I think you should be fine to take Wil to school by Thursday. I hope Wes feels better soon
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sorry, posting at the same time. No, I don't think Wil has it, but I'm not positive. He and DH had a cold all last week. DH is at an urgent care right now getting tested for strep, just in case. I didn't bother to have the ped check Wil too, but I should have. He isn't miserable like Wesley though.
A&A'smommy replied: poor baby!! Strep sucks!!!
Its 24 hours and they aren't contagious anymore
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Thanks, DH just went and got tested and they said Wesley would be fine by noon tomorrow (not contagious as long as he is taking the amox). So 24 hours it is! I think Wil is fine, so I'm sending him to school on Thursday, but I should probably warn his teacher. BTW, DH doesn't have it, thank god.
CantWait replied: Poor little guy. Hope he's feeling better soon. Hope Wil doesn't end up getting it.
