My baby girl learned how to ride a bike

coasterqueen wrote: I am still amazed and shocked. Kylie has obviously grown out of the training wheels because they keep bending on her when she tries to ride her bike. After dinner last night Ryan mentioned to her that he'd take them off and just ride the bike without them. She said Ok. ohmy.gif Shocked me. Ryan asked if he should have her put on her knee pads, helmet, etc and I told him no because that would scare her into thinking she was definitely going to fall. So within a 1/2 hour Ryan was letting go of the seat and Kylie was riding around all by herself. wub.gif wub.gif I still can't believe it!!! Obviously she has a long way to go because she can't start off without help, but she's gonna have this thing down by the end of summer for sure.

My baby girl is growing up. bawling.gif love2.gif

ETA: What shocked me most is she wasn't scared at all, even if she fell. I've got video I'll try to upload and share with you in a bit.

luvmykids replied: WTG Kylie! thumb.gif

I can't get my Kylie to even try without the training wheels rolleyes.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Awww...good job Kylie.

amynicole21 replied: That's so great! I think that confidence is the key to learning to ride. Sounds like she's choc full of it wink.gif

MommyToAshley replied: WOW!!! Congrats to Kylie! WTG!!!

Ashley doesn't even want to try to ride without her training wheels. The good thing is that she's always worn a helmet so when it comes time to take the training wheels off I will be able to relax a little... but DH is still going to have to be the one to do it. LOL. I don't think I will be able to even look. laugh.gif

coasterqueen replied:
laugh.gif Well, Kylie learned how to do it in grass. I'm not sure there is much there that a helmet and pads would really help if she fell wink.gif The thing is she is so tall that she was able to catch herself (put her feet down) every time she felt like she was going to fall. She fell once, but I think she did it on purpose and didn't hurt herself in the least bit. I'm sure she's going to fall one day, especially when she gets out on the rock roads, but she'll live. She's going to fall at school too (already has) and I can't put helmets and knee pads on her there too. happy.gif Well I guess I could, but I'm sure Kylie would be made fun of and never live it down. tongue.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
Really??? All the kids around here wear helmets (not so much the knee pads), but the helmets. I don't think anyone would make fun of them for wearing a helmet. Even so, I think I would still make Ashley wear one... but that's just me.

Anyways, sorry to get off-track with that post. I just sort-of ramble sometimes. It's great that she learned to ride without her training wheels. That's a pretty big accomplishment and it's cool that you got it on video!!

coasterqueen replied:
Oh no, I meant she's going to fall at school - on the playground, off the playground equipment, etc and I can't keep her from falling then unless I sent her w/helmet and knee pads. tongue.gif I remember all the playground accidents from school, there always seemed to be a lot. happy.gif

As far as everyone wearing them, hmmm, not sure. I live in the country where people are a lot few and farther between. tongue.gif Kylie asked for a helmet a long time ago and we bought her one but never forced her to wear one. She doesn't wear it now. I never wore one and I'm fine. happy.gif I think. laugh.gif I hate to use that logic - that sentence, because I hate it being used when it comes to car seats, but the "evolution" of cars is much different than the "evolution" of riding a bike - at least for me it is and around here. Kylie is not allowed to ride on the country roads - not yet, so she has no issues to deal with cars, just rocks from our driveway. happy.gif I don't see any of the kids out here wearing helmets, though.

coasterqueen replied: BTW, Dee Dee - if you read this - I bet Ashley is tall enough to put her feet down. If she realizes she can put her feet down, she's more than likely not to get scared about falling and probably won't fall. I was so sure Kylie would have fallen a ton of times and I honestly was scared to look happy.gif but she didn't.

MommyToAshley replied:
Sorry Karen, I don't mean to make you feel like you have to justify your parenting choices. We have different parenting styles and live in different areas... we are going to have differences. I didn't mean to make this post about helmets... it should be about congratulating Kylie on her accomplishment!! Way to go Kylie!!

BAC'sMom replied: WTG Kylie!

coasterqueen replied:
Ah, you are fine wink.gif TBH if we lived in a more populated area, with lots of concrete sidewalks, roads, etc I'd probably make her wear one. Living in the country you are a lot more relaxed about a lot of things - at least we are.

Thank you for the congrats. I know Kylie will love to hear all the congrats. wub.gif

luvbug00 replied: AWSOME!!!! mya is 7 and is still scared to ride hers period.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: WTG Kylie!!!

A&A'smommy replied: WTG Kylie!!!!! thumb.gif thumb.gif I can't wait for Alyssa to be big enough to ride without training wheels SOO much fun!!

mom21kid2dogs replied: banana.gif cheerleader.gif Yeah Kylie!!! cheerleader.gif banana.gif
That's awesome!! Our neighbor girl just learned to ride hers this week, too! It's so fun to watch them~they are so proud when they "get" it!!! thumb.gif

coasterqueen replied:
They are proud, aren't they. wub.gif I was so amazed at Kylie last night - how she wasn't scared at all, and wow - she grew up right before my eyes with this milestone. I admire her confidence in everything she does. wub.gif
