My Project...Tell Me What You Think.
Crystalina wrote: I've wanted to do this for a few years now and I'm just getting to where I have time to work on it. Right now I'm just at the very start of this and I still have a few legal things to do that require money that I won't have until after the holidays. I just wanted to share it with you guys and maybe if you know anyone in Ohio with a story to share you can pass it on. A few people have told me it's morbid but I don't see it like that at all. I guess it's all in how you view things. I think that they are beautiful in their own way (which is why I've been called morbid ). It's not the cross that to me is beautiful but that fact that the person is being remembered still and that people take the time to care for the crosses.
Anyway, constructive criticism is always welcome.
The site right now is plain but that's only because I have yet to fix it the way I want to due to $$.
Clicky
FireFox messes it up for some reason but it's ok on IE.
moped replied: Oh I think it is a wonderful idea - I don't thinkmorbid at all. I too have wondered many times the meaning of crosses
Very Nice Girl!
CantWait replied: I'm often wondered about the stories behind crosses at the side of the road. I like the idea, not morbid at all.
bawoodsmall replied: I think it is an awesome idea!!! I would be so touched to share my story of my loved one. Good job girl!!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Very nice.
gr33n3y3z replied: Very nice I like that idea We have so many of those and a few we know very sad
luvmykids replied: I love it, and I too always wonder about the stories behind the crosses on the side of the road.
Crystalina replied: Thanks for the input so far. As I've started delving more into the crosses I've learned that there is controversy behind them being there. It's being said they should not be aloud to be put up because they distract drivers and can cause accidents and more death. To me it's no different then any other thing being on the side of the road. There's controversy with everything though it seems.
luvmykids replied: So true It's no more distracting than any other sign
mom21kid2dogs replied: There is a typo in the body of the page. The word "summery" should be summary.
lovemy2 replied: I think it is a fabulous idea - not at all morbid and I think too that most of these tragic accident have a lesson to be learned - like drinking and driving, on the cell phone, etc. etc. if just one person sees your website and remembers not to do the things that may have caused one of these accidents then you have done the world a wonderful justice
Crystalina replied: OH thanks! I'll get that fixed. My darn FireFox spell check must not have caught that. If I don't notice the red line I just keep typing.
Crystalina replied: Thank you. I'm not expecting to become rich with this (probably just the opposite ) but I think it will be a nice thing to do because I'm always wanting to stop on the side of the road and look at the little things left behind and try to figure out more about the person but of course with traffic and kids I can't just do that. Not to mention if I had a loved one lost like that I would jump on the opprotunity to talk about them and try to keep them alive. I plan on trying to put some of the books in our Cracker Barrel and other little shops where I live and of course in shops around where the people who contribute stories live.
MoonMama replied: I love this idea.
kimberley replied: i think it's a wonderful idea. the one thing i know people fear when they lose a loved one, is that they will be forgotten. this is a great way to keep their memory alive.
Calimama replied: I love this idea! Tell us when it's done so I can buy the book.
A&A'smommy replied: I think its an awesome idea, and a great way to also remember a loved one!!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: LOVE it, also have you thought about adding the stories of the adopted highways. What I mean is there is a part of 675 that was dedicated to a police officer and firefighter who lost there lives while on a call.
I would so buy the book being in ohio and all.
Let me know if you want/need any help.
lisar replied: I think its a great idea. Good for you.
Crystalina replied: I wasn't aware of the term "adopted highways" but I was planning on doing a piece on officers. I never thought of the firemen though, that's a good idea. I also want to have a very brief part on the Shenandoah. Most everybody already knows the story but crosses still get placed where it went down on the side of interstate 77S. It's an old story but it's still a story.
Crystalina replied: If any of you know of anyone who would like to be added let me know or send them to the site.
grapfruit replied: I don't know that story....
I think it's a good idea. Not morbid at all!!
Crystalina replied: Well I guess I shouldn't say that everbody knows the story. The crash happened in 1925 so it was a while ago but people around here know about it. It's right by where I live so I drive by the site all the time and you can still see where it crashed because I'm pretty sure they mow what would be the shape of it. You can drive by there and see crosses randomly placed there.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I am not sure adpoted is the right word, I will have to look when I get on it again, it might be dedicated.
luvbug00 replied: very cool. I can see how people would call it morbid but hey i do the same with the crosses as i do in a cemetary, i wonder who they are and what was important to them in life. Very good idea. great site graphics
redchief replied: I think that collecting these stories to tell is a wonderful idea. I'm not sure whether a book would financially work or not, but I really like that you want to tell their stories.
I did find two typos in this first paragraph sentence: "We've all seen them and I'm sure more then once have wondered who is being remembered there and what exactly their story may be."
The word "then" should be "than." There is a double space between the word "who" and "is." There are also several additional spaces between words and punctuation that should be removed. The frame sizing problem seems to cross browser platforms. I'm having the same problem in IE that I have in Firefox... unruly scrollbars. Finally, and I hope I'm not being too forward, I wouldn't have centered the text - it makes it hard for me to read.
I really like the idea, and several of the related ones that I saw in this thread.
Crystalina replied: I'll fix the typing errors. You can't be too forward with me. When I use IE it is centered and I used html to do it. It may not look centered on the page because I'm using their generic layouts until I can pay to have a better one and I only have so many options as to where to put the main body. I've tried it to the left and to the right and that didn't look right at all. This is supposed to be the centered layout but it leans (to the left if I'm not mistaken) and that's as good as it can get. With FF my banner is way off and I have a scrollbar just to read the body. I'm not sure how I can get it to look nice for both browsers at the same time. I went with the IE look because I believe more people use that one. Maybe it will make a difference after I pay for a better layout or can have someone use html and make one from scratch.
As for all the typos... OMG! I didn't think I was that illiterate. <---did I splell that right?
