My Mom - (Long)

I found out Friday my mom has Ovarian Cancer. About 4 years ago my mom started having seizures and didn’t bother to tell anyone till she had one while driving. She went to the doctors and they did a CT scan. (They never did any blood work up though.) She had a mass in her Pineal Gland. She was sent to Shands in Gainesville. The doctor there told us the Pineal Gland was left over from when we were frogs (umm, when were we frogs?) and it was not causing her seizures. (Trust me it took everything I had not to go across the desk and whoop his ***.) Well she didn’t want to give up and she was sent to a local hospital and they did video monitoring on her. She had a Grand Mal seizure but they tried to tell us there was no variation in brain activity. They sent a shrink down to talk to her. Needless to say, we were all very much discouraged and had given up.
Well about three weeks ago she finally confided in our gyn about what was going on with her. They sent her for a series of blood work and they noticed her testosterone levels were higher then a man’s and her calcium was through the roof. She also had an abundance of hair growth on her body plus the absence of AF. The doctor ordered up the blood work to begin with to see if she was menopausal but that showed negative so that’s when the other blood work was ordered up. They did a u/s and found a mass on her kidney and on her ovary. They mass on the kidney turned out to be nothing. The mass on the ovary is another story.
She went to a specialist on Friday. He said he was really disappointed in the doctors who were taking care of her when they found the mass in her brain. He said the seizures are caused by a hormonal imbalance. In other words, the mass on the ovary has been there for 4 years and growing. It is the size of a softball right now. Mom moved her surgery date from the 7th of August to the 21st of August. We told her that was unsat and she didn’t to see if she could get the 7th back. She just called me from her office and she is officially having surgery on the 7th of August.
We will know the extent of the cancer when she has her surgery. They will send it to the pathologist as soon as they take it out. They will also look around to see if they got it all. We will know then if she has to have chemo. (I think this is the one the Dr was talking about. I get chemo and rad confused. I know the difference between the two but I always forget what the Dr says.) She will also have to have a full hysterectomy, which she is not happy about at all.
My brother is taking emergency family leave from the Navy. He is up in Seattle, WA. My sister is taking a week off work, my grandfather (mom’s dad) from TX will be here, my grandmother (mom’s mom) will most likely be here if she can from Central Florida and I will only be able to take two days off work due to case loads right now.
So if everyone could please send prayers her way I would greatly appreciate it.
On a different note, Annika’s care giver is going back to school in a couple of weeks. Annika is changing hands, yet again. Another friend of mine is going to keep her. I wonder how long I can keep her out of daycare. LOL
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. I am so sorry this got so long. I didn’t realize till this point how much I had typed.
Love you all. Thank you for being the greatest group of friends a girl could ask for. Don’t know what I would do without you all.

CantWait replied: Many prayers for your mom Holly. I hope this is something that they've caught earlier enough to get everything.
*On the side note, about Annika having to switch again - that seriously sucks. I don't know why you don't like daycares, but from someone that's had great experiences with them, they really aren't that bad except when a child is sick.*
