My MIL is something else!! - DH & I were embarrased

amymom wrote: Last night we went out for Christmas dinner. Just us and Billy's girl friend. I had met her once before but only for a moment, so this was really the first time we had spent any time together. It was a very nice dinner, we ate at a restaurant that MIL wanted to go to. Would have been better just the adults, very adult restaurant. Most things on the menu were over $20. Anyway, the point of my story....

We were having the usual small talk with Billy's gf, and my MIL reaches over and touches my son's long curly hair and says... "Well, i thought Billy's hair was bad until I saw yours. What did you do? Did you dip it in black shoe polish?" His gf has pretty strawberry blonde hair that she had dyed a small part of Blue. Good thing Grandma couldn't see in the dark restaurant that it was blue!! What a thing to say! She - the gf--took it with loads of poise. I truly believe that kids / people that do these extreme things need to be ready to take the looks, stares, comments that go with them, But I don't want my family making fun at the first meeting. Oh Well, Grandma is almost 90 is the excuse I keep giving to her. biggrin.gif

MoonMama replied: Oh goodness I think I would have slowly sank under the table. emlaugh.gif hug.gif Glad she handled it well. thumb.gif

HuskerMom replied: laugh.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: lol

I can tell you that when I had a blue mohawk or my pink hair back in the 80's that it was all for the shock factor. I really got a rise out of seeing peoples reactions. rolling_smile.gif

Anthony275 replied: if it was my grandma, she'd be muccccccchhhhhhh worse. trust me rolleyes.gif

msoulz replied:
LOL, I was thinking the same thing! My grandmother used to just say whatever thing came to her mind. I think she felt she had earned the right to just blurt out her "truth" no matter the consequence. rolleyes.gif But I loved her anyway - maybe because she was nicest to me - and I miss her!!

Calimama replied:
emlaugh.gif So is DH's. When I met her I was wearing a jacket with a fur lined hood and she said, " I thought fur was only for strippers." blink.gif

grapfruit replied:
You should of smacked some gum and been like "Yeah what's it to ya?" W/a REAL heavy Brooklyn accent biggrin.gif

Did you take any pictures of Billy and his gf? smile.gif I want to see this blue hair! smile.gif

Cece00 replied: She sounds like a good girl to just go along w/o being offended.

What is with some old ladies?? DH's grandmother was a b****. The first time I ever met her (I only met her about 5 times before she died about 1.5 yrs ago) I was just like "WOW, interesting lady." She was really rude & mean on top of saying innapropriate things.

Anthony275 replied: oh please, mine sits in front of the tv all day literally and watches qvc...and buys things. she doesnt even go out anywhere to wear these things!!

Calimama replied:

BAC'sMom replied: LOL emlaugh.gif

amymom replied:
Oh I wish I had. She is very cute and it is only a small streak of blue. Nothing major.

grandma replied:
If grandma is 90, give her a break, it's not easy getting old and out of touch. thumb.gif My mom is 84 and she forgets things and say inapproprite things, we all just remember we're glad she's still here biggrin.gif

bawoodsmall replied: I think I like his g/f for taking it so well. It may say something about her...we shall see. I think that when people get older they dont care anymore and will say exactly what is on their mind...kinda like children.

grandma replied:
I don't think they stop caring, I think they aren't use to being politcally correct about everything. I don't think they inentionally do it to hurt someone's feelings.

bawoodsmall replied:
You may be right...but my grandparents are starting to do it and it is because they dont care. They say that they are older now and if someone doesnt like what they have to say too bad.

grandma replied:
How old are they? I say what I think, but do it in a nice way, I would never intend to hurt someone with my opinion. But I'm not that old yet either, it might change..lol

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh that's sorta funny! Probably not to Billy's GF, but glad she took it okay. My cousin has a ton of tatoos and lots of piercings, and my 85 year old grandmother always says to him "glad your grandfather isn't still alive to see his grandson with holes in his ears!" She says it half jokingly, but I think she really means it! tongue.gif

holley79 replied: I would have seriously sunk into the floor.

gr33n3y3z replied: lol
She is 90 sounds good to me LOL
