My MIL is getting remarried - what do I get her?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: What do you get your MIL who is getting married again this July? She's having a very small intimate wedding and is most likely NOT registering anywhere, so I am stuck as to what to get her. I posted about a Mother's Day gift for her as well and ended up just sending flowers. She is very picky and has just about everything. Her new husband to be is even MORE picky. They're putting a new pool in their yard and remodeling the house. So I was thinking something cool for the pool area. Must be relaxing, not toyish. Maybe something they can use while they entertain outside?? I wish DH didn't leave the gift buying up to me all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Just need some ideas so that I don't wait until the last minute...

ediep replied: I'd just give money, but money is a customary wedding gift in the northeast

~KARA~ replied: My mil got remarried again last november and we didnt get her anything, not even a card! She took off to vegas so her kids couildnt be there!!

Alice replied: I agree-- in NY it's money. But since you asked:

Is there a Harrows near you? Or other major pool manufacturer? Why not hit their website or see about a gift cert? Would you consider a solar heater for the pool? or underwater lights (I have no idea of the price range here.)

gr33n3y3z replied: pool alarm lol
I dont know

How about wine and glasses or something in that line

But ediep is right money is the deal here in the NE

Good luck in finding something

Celestrina replied:
I agree with Alice. A gift cert would be great.

MommyToAshley replied: I'd probably give money as well.

Something for the pool sounds nice.... what about some nice chairs to lounge in by the pool, or table set, or an outdoor bar for entertaining? I've also seen some pretty cool looking fountains for the pool, but not sure if I would want one or not.

Good luck. thumb.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: First do they want gifts? It seems like the older people I know didn't want gifts for there weddings.

If they do Something for the pool cold be nice, also you could go with an acrilic dish/glass set. My parents only used those types of things for outdoor entertaining as opposed to throw away or breakable.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Okay I like the idea of a gift certificate at a pool type store. No Harrow's in my area, but I'll look online. I would feel uncomfortable giving money to my MIL since she always give us so much. I couldn't get even close to that and I doubt she would take it! So thanks for the ideas. Pottery Barn has some cool outdoor stuff right now too.

Lisa, you're probably right, they probably don't want gifts, but I feel the need to get them something. Maybe $100 max. She's putting us up at this really expensive spa/hotel for the wedding and I would feel awkward coming empty handed.

Keep ideas coming if you can...thanks

Jamison'smama replied: Nice monogrammed towels for the pool area or mongrammed robes?

amymom replied:
Yeah! I was thinking along similar lines. Maybe something to indicate a 'new' couple like champagne glasses, picnic basket, or tray to bring poolside. OR maybe a nearby place could cater a poolside romantic lunch or dinner for two after the wedding festivities are done and over.

moped replied: How about a nice bottle of wine and 2 wine glasses - I would love that..............and a wine decanter thingy - they look really classy sitting out!
