My DH wants to buy me.....

hopefulmomtobe wrote: a ring. He said since I didnt get one when we got married (a diamond that is) then I could take 2,000 and pick one out. Now, I feel like a freaking kid in the candy store because I am soo excited that I dont know what to do!!! Does anyone have any suggestions on picking out a ring that will be well worth the money to get a good size for 2 grand??? I like the 3 stone rings...but want one that is gorgeous because I never really had a pretty diamond before so I am sooo excited!!! What do I do..what do I do!!!!!

they have great rings, worth the money and you can trust them!!

lovemy2 replied: Oh Boy - look at the three Cs...color, cut and clarity - go online and read up on it - but I guess it depends if you are more interested in quality or quantity!!!

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calimama replied: Don't forget the 5 c's!

Color
Cut
Clarity
Carat
Cost

luvmykids replied: My MIL was in the jewelry business and helped me find both my rings (lost one and she had to find me another LOL). Anyway her expertise helped a lot, the nutshell version is this:

Personally I'd look around online, of course be careful but I highly recommend two....I got my second ring from elsasjewelry.com and the first was from diamondsbylauren.com, they are both family owned custom jewelers and fabulous people. JMHO but I think you get a lot more bang for your buck online as far as larger size/better quality. You won't get a lot of sparkle from a low grade color or clarity no matter how big it is. I have an emerald cut but you can get away with lower clarity in a cut like a round brilliant since they have sooooo many facets and will pretty much sparkle no matter what, meaning with a cut like that you can go larger and get away with less on the color and clarity.

It can seem overwhelming online but you can at least do some starting research, there are lots of diamond wholesalers where you can do a search on your criteria...I'd personally not go lower than a SI-1, preferably a VS-2 and colorwise try to stay in the D-H color.

J-rod replied: i would go with a small local jewler if possible....gonna have as good of rings if not better than large chains, plus more personal service, and a better deal.

hopefulmomtobe replied:
We have a local jewlery here that we bought our wedding bands from and they seem great. I will drop in and see them to see what they have. I definatley want something real shiney and a good size. I know 2 grand wont get me too far, but I will make it stretch as far as I can!!! smile.gif

thanks for all your comments, I will keep it all in mind and hopefully have a picture to show you soon!!!! smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Bah I'm in the minority here... I'd get a cheap ring for now and keep the cash.... just cuz well, for me anyways... i never really wear my ring because I usually ahve my hands coated in something...be it baking stuff or paint or glue etc... and so really, I'm glad I have a relatively cheap ring. Once the kids are older, maybe I will get myself a better one... but for now my trinity is fine for me. Besides... I won't feel as bad losing this one than if I lost the one I really want, which is over 8000$. (It's big, lots of stones, and platinum. blush.gif ) But I can't justify spending that much on a ring. Ever. emlaugh.gif Heck, it's about what I paid for my box at the mausauleum.

hopefulmomtobe replied:
Well, that is where I am a little ocd. If my hands get dirty...I have to wash them, if I even think they are dirty...I have to wash them. If I crack and egg...I have to wash them. If I put lotion on my hands, I have to wash them. It is crazy...so you will never find my hands in anything icky. smile.gif I think I am safe for not losing it unless of course it goes down the sink from washing them so much! lol

boyohboyohboy replied: wendy, we went to a diamond expo ( you can find stores that just sell diamonds) and bought just the stone, then had a ring made, it was cheaper in the long run because we didnt pay store mark up, and we got a really nice ring, that we paid $3000 for its worth $6000 on apraisal..
maybe you can find something like that, and then you can custom make it to what you want, a unique ring.
I have to ask Dh what the name of the diamond place was....
I think it was out of new jersery

My3LilMonkeys replied:
I'm with you there....I can't imaging spending $2000 on a piece of jewelry ever.....we spent $500 on my engagement ring and both wedding rings combined. We would never have $2000 "extra" to spend on anything.

sparkys2boys replied: all I can say is whohooooo.. have fun g/f..lol!!!!

Sakeloonie replied: bluenile.com is a great place to buy. They have a 30 day money-back guarantee (they even send you a box to send it back in). It's where we got mine, I took it to my local jeweler who is a friend (bought lots of stuff from him in the past)... he said it looked bang on for the clarity and cut, but he said the colour looked even better than they said. (VS-1 clarity, ideal cut and H colour) He said never to tell anyone locally, but just between us that I'd made a great purchase. I'd buy from them again in an instant.
