Multivitamins
DVFlyer wrote: We are trying to get Chloe and Keian to take a chewable multivitamin. Keian is ok with it, but Chloe can't stand the taste. If they ate better, I wouldn't worry so much, but they don't so I do.
Have you run into this and which, if any, multivitamins have you had success with?
Thanks.
lisar replied: I am succesful with the gummy bear ones. They love them. And I have tried them and they dont taste like vitamins at all.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Although eating is not an issue in our family, the gummy vitamins win at our house as well. I believe we have Flintstone gummies right now.
DVFlyer replied: At some point, we had some vitamins that were not quite gummy and not hard. I think they were fish. Michelle said Chloe would eat those.... but we can't remember what brand they were.
She's so picky.....
Boo&BugsMom replied: I third the gummy-vites! We get ours in a huge container from Sam's. Tanner asks to have them every day. And occassionally, I'll steal one or two from the container.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: liquid...? in their juice?
DVFlyer replied: Tried that using Poly-Visol. She can taste it.... even though I couldn't. She's like a CSI detective.
Calimama replied:
luvmykids replied: Gummies all the way....the ones we have are identical to gummy bears in every way....texture included They're the Gummy-vites too.
gr33n3y3z replied: Me too I love those things
Calimama replied: lol maybe I should try them.
MommyToAshley replied: Oh man, I wish I knew where that article on vitamins went. There was an article about otc vitamins. After an independent study, it was concluded that many vitamins did not have an accurate amount of the vitamins. This is dangerous because getting too much of certain vitamins can be more dangerous than not getting enough. It said that the worst were the gummy vitamins ... they were the most inconsistent. The best, the one that consistently had the correct dosage of each vitamin were the Flintstone Complete chewables. So, that's what we use. Ashley doesn't like the purple ones, so DH or I get those vitamins.
I know I didn't answer your original question but I thought you'd be interested in this info.
MommyToAshley replied: Here's a link to one article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16655168/wid/11915773?GT1=8921
I'll see if I can find the other one that was solely about children's vitamins.
CantWait replied: Preciously why I stick to well known companies always when choosing vitamins.
I give the kids Flinstones chewables. They love them. Odd, I know.
DVFlyer replied: Thanks for the article, Dee.
We bribed her with a Ding-Dong. She couldn't have the ding-dong (half actually) unless she ate her vitamin. I ended up cutting it into 1/8ths. before she would eat them.
At least she ate them.... and I got the other half of the ding-dong.
I never thought about trying the different colored ones to see if there were a different taste. She might like one more than the other.
Good idea.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Maye you should try to eat one in front of her, but make it sneaky, like she's not supposed to see... and when she asks, tell her it's a treat. She might want one. lol
DVFlyer replied: I did that first- and then made the mistake of giving her a whole one. She says they are "spicy" which I think means "sour" or "tangy". That pretty much set the tone from then on.
Until the ding-dongs came along.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I wont do the gummy ones, i dont think they would last long in our house. For ti its way to much like candy, not something I really want to promote. I use the flinstone chewables also, I usualy get with extra iron.
MommyToAshley replied: That's funny, Ashley uses the same term. She won't drink anything carbonated because it is "spicy", which I am glad. However, it makes it tough when we go out to birthday parties becuase most places don't have an alternative (some don't even have water as an alternative). I usually bring a juice or water along just in case, but sometimes I forget.
Sorry... didn't mean to get OT, but thought it was funny that Ashley uses the same term.
DVFlyer replied: I guess the Ding-Dong did it. I still have to cut her vitamin in smaller pieces, but she's eating them. She also knows which colors she likes and which she doesn't.
