Moving companies??

MyLuvBugs wrote: Anyone have any recommendations or advice?

We've asked for quotes from like a billion different places it seems....all of which are COSTLY as all get out! blink.gif UGH rolleyes.gif

Two Men and a Truck actually wanted over $8,000 to move us from Lincoln to Phoenix!! I told DH to ask if they were out of their minds! dry.gif But the prices and services with all the other companies varies quite a bit. From $1,800 to $4,000......

Any advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated!!

skinkybaby replied: In my experience you get what you pay for when it comes to movers. If you go too cheap half of your stuff will end up getting broken and it's a pain getting the money to refund those items from those types of companies.

gr33n3y3z replied: I would say if it were me pack the stuff yourself and rent a U-Haul truck
I hear so many stories

Calimama replied: We used Pensk, moved ourselves from Texas to California and paid $238. That was with a big military discount though.

sparkys2boys replied: I agree with the u haul truck, it's always much cheaper and you know that things will arrive and also be in one piece!! Good luck with the move

iagree.gif!!! Good Luck! We used U-Haul recently to move about 25 minutes! We paid a good price! wink.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: If you want to do your packing and don't mind loading/unloading yourself.

Go with ABF....smile.gif

ZandersMama replied: No advice, just hug.gif moving stinks. I hate packing and unpacking wacko.gif

CantWait replied: I hate doing all the work, so I definetly say go with a big company and don't be afraid to spend big money, as stated above, you get what you pay for.

mom2my2cuties replied: You DO get what you pay for - but DO NOT - whatever you do go with QUALITY MOVING SERVICES

MyLuvBugs replied: Thanks All! We've moved....A LOT! And have always done it ourselves. Probably why our headboard mirror is broken, our dresser has a large chip and several dents, our couch has a stain.....etc. etc. etc. rolleyes.gif I personally would REALLY like to have someone just come in and pack it all up, but then the OCD person in me says "ARE YOU INSANE!!" laugh.gif So, we're thinking if they come in and wrap and pack the large items so that those don't get damaged, that's what we really need. That and help loading it all. KWIM? Right now we're getting quotes from the following....

Allied
Mayflower
National
United
Penske
Pods
ABF
Trans American
AAA Van Lines

And some other little ones that are supposedly reputable, but I've never heard of them before.

I guess we'll see what all the quotes say. Thanks for your advice!!

CantWait replied: AAA, United, and Alied are the ones that do military moves here, so I can honestly say they are reputable. We've been through 4 moves now.

Also, in all those moves we've had some damage, it's bound to happen. These companies will also specify in their contract that if you help them move something, if whatever is in the box is broken, or if that piece of furniture is damaged in any way they are not responsible because you laid hands on it. For something to be completely insured, they have to be the ones to pack, move, and unpack it.

Good luck.

mom2my2cuties replied: I just asked Andrew - the company that we used that screwed up bigtime was Northwest Van Lines They used Quality Moving Services in dallas as a subcontractor.

MAKE SURE YOU GET A COPY OF SOMETHING STATING THIER LIABILITY INSURANCE!!!!!!

Calimama replied: I love Allied.. they are the military moving companies they use here. They are AWESOME.
