Okay, I will come right out and say it, I am a democrat, and will PROBABLY vote for Obama, but really, am I the only one that sees this as completely uncalled for? and Why can't the people that designed this be sued for slander or what ever? it is blatantly falsified information

know what else is sick? these were sold at an event sponsored by Focus on the Family, and christian organization. Niiiiiice.

My2Beauties replied: dry.gif Absurd.

Calimama replied:

blink.gif blink.gif

Wow. The whole thing is just sick.

PrairieMom replied: yeah. they said it was "satire" and had no idea it would be offensive.

really? dry.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: I'm a conservative and not a fan of Obama, but even I think this is just ridiculous. wacko.gif

msoulz replied: Politics is so very ugly. I wish they could stick to the issues and what they believe instead of telling us how awful the other person is, and doing ugly stuff like this delightful Christian group. mad.gif

PrairieMom replied: I don't like waffles, I'm a pancake gal . so, McCain it is! laugh.gif wacko.gif

msoulz replied:
LOL!! We have to make a decision some how! I just may go with that too! tongue.gif

Crystalina replied: The very sad thing is that this is the year 2008 and there are many "adults" who will find that rather funny. dry.gif It sickens me to think how some people have just never evolved like the rest of us.

jcc64 replied: A lot of people are racists, simple as that, and unfortunately, they get to vote too.

luvmykids replied:
Yep dry.gif

I will say though, in all fairness, The View has done it's share of McCain/Palin bashing. At least they are equal opportunity laugh.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied: It's a caracture of his face...I have seen McCain drawn in the same way in more than one newspaper comic....It is a poke at his obvious waffling on many issues over the years. If it was McCain on the box would you have been so offended? Probably not rolleyes.gif

Crystalina replied:
I'm pretty sure it's being taken the way it was meant to be. I'm not sure why some people are just so hateful. Whether "you" like him or not as a politician or a person it's just plain sad. I would say the same if McCain were depicted in such a manner. A person is a person. Period.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Honestly- I don't think that 1/2 of what is SO OFFENSIVE (and this goes for both sides) is really that bad. It is spin, satire and in most ways immaturity. I personally get tired of everything in today's world being pointed out as racist or offensive-take a breath! It will be OK! thumb.gif

O and yes McCain could totally be on the box so could Hil dodging bullets or Biden for that matter-Kennedy could be driving them all across a bridge-maybe Palin's bridge to nowhere....see what I mean....It is all just spin wink.gif

Crystalina replied:

Well, that is you personally, as you said. I have many members of my family as dark as Obama and they live with racism more then I'd like to see. They are not African American but Puerto Rican. I guess if the ignorance hits close to home it's hard to "take a breath". And it's not really ok either. I guess if you are detached from that in your life it's easier to say. I don't know if you deal with that or not but I couldn't imagine anyone who has seen a loved one hurt like that would say "take a breath! It will be OK! thumb.gif " . dunno.gif

If that's how you feel that is fine but I, of course, had to respond in the way that I feel. hug.gif

luvmykids replied:
Ok, now no offense, but couldn't this be turned around as why wasn't there a parody of Obama on SNL?

I mean come on, they both get ripped apart, poked fun at, etc....it's not like one has been singled out and another hasn't.

Crystalina replied:
No, I'm not saying that at all. McCain has been made fun of d/t his age but to me that's not as hateful as someone making fun of a person's race and saying they are a religion they are not just to freak out all the Muslim freaker-outers. happy.gif And there have been parody's of Obama on there. They just aren't funny because he's rather dry in that area. I remember them making fun of him when Hillary was still in the race. They had the mock debates and asked her all the hard questions while offering to fluff his pillows and get him coffee. emlaugh.gif To me that kind of stuff is different then attacking a person for race/religion (even though it's not his religion.)

luvmykids replied: ITA Crystal, and don't defend it, just wanted to point out Obama is not some victim while McCain has been exempt from it.

I have a dumb question though, showing him in Mexican fiesta type clothes, etc...isn't it poking fun more at his views on immigration than his own race?

Crystalina replied:
Yes it does and that's why I didn't bring that part up. The part I didn't like is where it says the top of the box (I think it was the top) has him in Muslim garb. That's just trying to paint him as something he's not.

There is a picture of him in a dress similar to Muslim but it was actually authentic African dress which looks very much the same as the Muslim. He was visiting family and dressed traditionally for them. I see nothing wrong with that. It's respectful.

PrairieMom replied:
I don't think the article mentioned it, but on the back of the box, and also I believe the top there is a picture of him in a turban , and a red arrow that points, and says something along the lines of "to fully enjoy these waffles point box towards Mecca.

redchief replied: This is much ado about nothing. Political satirists have depicted their nemeses in satirically negative ways for as long as there have been politics. In one of my college courses we looked at the history of political satire and the sting some of it left throughout our past. George Washington was depicted as a bungling idiot, Thomas Jefferson as a cruel slave hoarder. Abe Lincoln was depicted as the devil himself. John Kennedy was shown as aloof and above all the "ordinary" people. Some of the most fun was had at the expense of Ronald Reagan, who never could quite shake that Hollywood image. Jimmy Carter was characterized throughout his time as the ignorant peanut farmer. All of these caricatures are a little bit mean spirited, and they're meant to be, but they certainly aren't worthy of this kind of uproar.
