Mommy2Isabella replied: This is getting crazy!!!

We walked down the toy aisle the other day and I was like umm NO ITS TOUCHING THE DORA BOX! Theres going to be mass people no longer buying toys. This is really going to hurt a lot of their christmas sales!!!

gr33n3y3z replied: Just buy toys made in the USA its that easy
Maybe a little more in cost but well worth it in the end

Mommy2Isabella replied: Def. but what about the contamination of the toy with the lead sitting right next to the toy without on the shelf?

Does that have any effect?

stella6979 replied: I'm seriously fed up with all these recalls, and I agree about the toys. I was in the store looking for something new for Avery to play with, but I was terrified to buy anything. And I honestly couldn't find anything American made. sad.gif

BAC'sMom replied: TFS mad.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
It may sound easy, but have you tried to find a toy made in the USA? There aren't any.

I have already taken all of Ashley's kid jewelry away from her. It's so sad because she loves jewelry.

If one of the manufacturers where to start a line of toys that are "made in the USA", I am sure that they would make a killing in profits at Christmas time even if they charged more for the toy. The problem is, as I understand it, that we can't keep up with the production. I am not sure why that is as there are lots of people that need jobs. But that seems to be the consensus (or the excuse) from the companies that send everything to China to be manufactuered.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
ditto. It's not easy. sleep.gif

coasterqueen replied: Here is a site I found helpful in finding USA made toys: USA made toys

MommyToAshley replied:
Does it say whether they are made 100% in the USA. Sometimes the parts come from China and they are just assembled here, but then you would have the same problem with quality standards.

coasterqueen replied:
I'm not sure on all the links on that site, but there are many organic/earthy type sites so you can guaranty a lot of those are good. I was just out on Step 2's website looking for something and they have labels "Made in USA" and "Made in USA with imported parts". So you can clearly see which of their items are made and how. thumb.gif

My2Beauties replied: mad.gif This is really starting to get frustrating. Here Hanna's b'day is coming up in November, as I said she needs mostly clothes, but I wanted to get her one big toy, it looks like I won't be buying anything now. sad.gif

holley79 replied: OK this is getting crazy.

I wonder what our lead levels were as kids? rolleyes.gif emlaugh.gif

DansMom replied: I noticed recently that matchbox cars are all made in china, die-cast metal and the paint flakes off pretty easily. I can't help wondering if this is not a new problem, either, and that we're just becoming aware of it.

coasterqueen replied:
I think you've got something there wink.gif I've felt the same way.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
I was thinking the exact same thing. I certainly don't think it's new. Just more awareness. I'm sure if we were all tested, our lead levels would be fairly high. If any of you have an older home, paint chips can fall in the dirt in the yard where your kids play. The dust gets ingested. We used to have a home built in the turn of the last century and we had this worry, but we also didn't have kids at the time. But I was pregnant. Scary stuff.

MommyToAshley replied:
I am pretty sure it isn't a new problem, and it bothers me. I try not to dwell on it, but it surely is bothersome.

Another parent said to me once, "I grew up in a home with lead paint chipping off the walls and I am fine." But now that we know the affects that lead has on us, why subject our kids to this. Who's to say that the parent that said that to me wouldn't have been a genius had she not been subjected to lead as a child. Or who's to say that the increase in cancer in kids and adults isn't related to lead or other harmful chemicals that they are unknowingly subjected to? It furiates me that kid's toys weren't tested more regularly and these companies aren't held accountable to anyone.
