Moms w/girls - HELP!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: My sister told me that my nieces all have the American Girl dolls, but that they want outfits for them.......... Now I was a little girl once before, so I should get this stuff right, but I DON'T!! Help me!! I googled American Girl and found their site, but are there cheaper places to find AG clothes? I want to just order and have it shipped directly to them in CA. So I don't want to go through ebay unless it's entirely new products (in case something is damaged and I don't get to see it first). Everything looks so expensive! $28 for ONE little outfit?? For a DOLL??? And which do I buy? Is there a really popular style out right now? Some of the outfits say 8+ and some 3+. PLEASE HELP!
Boys r us replied: Fortunately we haven't made it to this stage yet! hopefully someone else can help you out!!! $28 for 1 little doll outfit does seem a bit expensive..but I know american girl stuff is pricey from hearing ladies int he office talk about it! Have you looked on Ebay? Maybe you can find a good deal on some new outfits there?
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Target has Our Generation dolls and they fit the American Girl. This is what we buy Maddie.
They just opened up an American Girl store here in Dallas. I'm so glad Maddie isn't that in to them. They are SO expensive. Good luck
Brias3 replied: I was JUST going to say this!
Aliyah got an American Girl doll last Christmas (I cringed buying that one- they are SO pricey) and she got some clothes with it, plus clothes and accessories for the doll from relatives who knew she was getting it, but I recently discovered that the outfits from Target do fit.
You could probably buy two of those outfits for the price of the outfits at the American Girl site/store.
If I'm remembering correctly, the 3+ outfits are for the American Girl Bitty Baby collection and the 8+ are for the regular dolls. Don't quote me on that though, I've only ever purchased from the actual store and there everything is broken down into sections for each doll. I'd recommend a good outfit to try would be a holiday one??
Another type of outfit you might try is the Magic Attic Club ones. They're like the American girl dolls, only a bit cheaper. I don't know that we have any of those clothing items, but I believe both dolls are 18" so they should be a close fit.
Cece00 replied: I will second the Target brand of outfits for the dolls, they fit american girl dolls..
also, try this

julesmom replied: Have you ordered doll clothes from them before? The prices look great. My dd has a Bitty Baby and I want to get her some clothes for the doll for Christmas.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: And if your niece is really touchy and will only accept the brand name... buy a few of the cheaper ones, and repackage them before sending them
My2Beauties replied: You know I have never heard of American Girl and I have 3 girls
Katrinadoodle replied: OMG I loved American Girl dolls I had Kirstin and a Bitty Baby, and all of the books.
Aaaah my childhood <3
Anywhoo, the prices have gotten so jacked up in the last 8 years, since I got one! I'm looking at the site now, and I got the Kirsten doll and book set. My parents paid $60 at the time for it - now it's $110! JEEZE.
Oh, and to answer your question - Build-a-Bear outfits fit the dolls
lisar replied: American girl stuff is so darn expensive. I am with the whole Target idea.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Cool, I have Super Target just up the street from me! I'll go there today and look around. I don't think my niece is that picky at only four, but I'm not sure - she has two older sisters and I have a feeling THEY will notice the difference. I'll talk to my sis about it first. We also have Build A Bear, but I doubt those clothes are any cheaper, right? Thanks for the link...Those prices seem reasonable. $15.99 for the Halloween outfit, not too bad. I think it was close to $22 or so on the AG site.
And the mom who said SHE had AG dolls herself, man do I now feel OLD! Yeah, I had Cabbage Patch dolls, but I had the very first kind, when they still had porcelain faces!
Katrinadoodle replied: Don't feel old They only came out 10 or 11 years ago. I'm only 16!
jcc64 replied: No offense, but I really think the whole American Girl thing is a total scam. $100 for a doll????? How good can a doll possibly be?
Katrinadoodle replied: Well, they are pretty good dolls. They hold up pretty well. And they do come with insurance If your doll breaks or her hair gets ruined or something, you send her to the "hospital" and she comes back a few weeks later all fixed up, wearing a hospital gown, an ID bracelet, and carrying a "Get Better" balloon :] And that's all free.
I got my Kirstin doll 8 years ago, and she's passed from me to my next youngest sister to my youngest sister, and still looks good as new. We sent her to the hospital once, when my little sister decided gum would make the dolls braids stay in place
BAC'sMom replied:
Ditto
Go with the Target brand
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh I totally agree, but I can't tell my sis that! She's got three girls, I have two boys. We are on opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to toys. I'm just going to go with her gift suggestion regardless if I agree with it or not. I'm just thankful she didn't ask that I buy them the actual doll!
Jamison'smama replied: Jamison has several of the Our Generation outfits. They are 9.99 and cute. I think the pajamas with the matching robe is good one. Jamison also has the dressy pink dress---it's a party dress I think.
My2Beauties replied: Geez it's nearly $100 for a doll...Hanna and Aubrey can kill that nonsense if they ever ask for one...
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Okay I just got back from Super Target and bought two Our Generation outfits, $9.99 each, which in all honesty, still seemed a bit steep for one little flimsy outfit. They are CUTE though! I bought the beach one since my niece lives in CA and I also bought a cute jean jacket, skirt, flats and bookbag style. I couldn't get a hold of my sis to ask if they would be okay, but oh well. My only worry is that they are Made in China, but I did a little googling and found that American Girl dolls are TOO! And I couldn't find anything about any recalls on either brand. So now I don't feel bad giving them to my sister who was just telling me how she has thrown out just about anything MIC from her home. I'm sure she isn't throwing away $300 worth of dolls though...
Thanks everyone!
Insanemomof3 replied: I remember when cabbage patch dolls were sooooo expensive, lol they were way less than what these dolls cost. I miss the good ole days.
