Mixed feelings tonight...
MommyToAshley wrote: Tonight when I went to nurse Ashley right before bed, she only nursed for a couple of minutes and then she cuddled up on my shoulder. We just sat there and rocked for awhile and then she pointed to her crib. So, I put her in her crib. She turned her head to the side so I walked out of the room and she went to sleep. She didn't even need to hold my hand to go to sleep. This is a good thing, but I do kind of miss it. And, she only nursed for a few minutes... is she getting ready to give up the only time she nurses? I am a little sad that she seems to need me less and less every day. I should be happy that she is growing into a strong and independant little girl, but I will still be sad when she gives up her last nursing session.
kimberley replied: awwww ((((BIG HUGS)))) Dee Dee!
it is so hard to see them grow up, but you should be very proud that you have nurtured your sweet little girl enough that she has found her independence. you're a great momma.
coasterqueen replied: Ahhh, I know how you feel. Well, Kylie hasn't given up ANY nursing sessions, lol, but I know I will be soooo sad (but also a bit happy, lol) when she doesn't need me anymore like that.
Maybe it was just a one night thing?
jem0622 replied: Sounds like she is giving it up. But at least she is telling you. I went cold turkey on Gabe after my D&C. Today was day 5. There was some whimpering for a few days, but he drinks so much...so he is okay. Unfortunately he is getting over an evil viral infection. Nasty fever and congestion. He just wanted to snuggle with me constantly and sleep with me. And that would be the time to let him nurse through the illness but I stuck to my guns. He drank lots out of a cup so I am grateful.
HUGS to Mommy.

CantWait replied: I just wanna offer some hugs to you I couldn't nurse Robbie, but I remember when he hit the 4 year old mark and he started to do things without mommy's help, I was crushed. Now that he doesn't even want me to do fun things with him (like going sledding), I can only imagine how you're feeling
A&A'smommy replied: its amazing how fast children grow and in all our heads we want to grow up but no matter what we will always need our mommies (I posted in your other thread)!!! ((((((HUGS HUGS)))))
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Here are some Dee Dee. It does sound like she's about to give it up, but like someone said above it's good that she's telling you. Jade gave up on nursing at 8 and 1/2 months. I was sad when she did, but at the time I think we were all ready to stop. Ashley might be getting more independent, but she's still going to need you for many years to come.
MomToMany replied: Awww...lots of to you, Dee Dee! It does sound like she's ready to give it up, or it could be that she just didn't want much that night, hopefully the latter. But just in case she is giving it up, here's a link from Kelly's site with some weaning info on it.

I know I'm dreading when Hannah weans, too. I'm not going to like that at all. They grow up way too fast!
More to you!!
aspenblue1 replied: That is what Isabella did when she weaned herself. I was so sad when she didn't want to anymore.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Oh Dee Dee, I know how you feel. When I was nursing my DS he would snuggle right into me and nurse for hours. Then the time got less and less until one day he just wouldn't nurse at all! I was so sad, I cried for about a week. He was 15mths old then. Now he's 6 and he still loves to cuddle with me! Maybe this is just a phase and she isn't quit ready to give it up yet!
jem0622 replied: The one thing that hit me on the head and I wanted to share with you...please be careful offering the boob if she flat out rejects it. Once she finally gives it up...and you might just want to stop to protect yourself...you can easily come down with Mastisis at this stage. I did with Nathan. Because he stopped and a day or two later I tried to offer the boob and I got SOOOO sick. Felt like the flu. So be careful!
HUGS Julie
ediep replied: aaawww! Well, she is getting so big! She'll need you in other ways for sure!!
DansMom replied: It could just be a break too. She might have been super-sleepy---sometimes Daniel doesn't nurse a lot if he's overtired. If it is the real thing, like everyone says it's good for her to grow but it's sad to give that up. I'm not ready and I'll be depressed when Daniel weans. Keep us posted on how things go the next few nights.
amynicole21 replied: Sending you great big Mommy ((HUGS))! I agree that it may have been a one time thing... only time will tell. If she is ready to give it up, then know that you have done everything perfectly by letting her guide her own weaning. Congrats to you, and WTG big girl, Ashley!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: awww sorry. I knwo how youfeel Kaitlin has given up morning and noon feeding she would much rther have food! but she still likes to nurse in the evening and in the middle if the night when her teeth hurt. I know it wont be long before she givs it up all together I will be sad....they do grow up way to fast!
MomToMany replied: How did she do last night, M2A? I'm just wondering how you are doing.
MommyToAshley replied: Thanks for asking.
After her bath, we sat in the rocking chair like we always do. I waited to see if she was going to ask to nurse instead of offering it to her, and she did ask. So, I think she still wants to nurse some? But just like the other night, she only nursed for a few minutes and then wanted to go to sleep in her crib.
MomToMany replied: I'm glad she still wants to nurse, even for just a few minutes. I know I look forward to Hannah's nursing sessions (most of the time), and would be really depressed if she stopped. Maybe she's just been really tired the past couple days and just wants to go to sleep sooner. HUGS to you!! Keep us updated on how she does!
