Mix matching furniture?
coasterqueen wrote: I FINALLY found the bed I want. Finally. And what happens? It only comes in black but the other pieces come in a regular oak color. I wanted everything in the regular oak color. So I start researching it more and this collection is MADE to mix and match between the black and oak. Huh? Never heard of that before. So I call a few furniture places up and they say that is the manufacturers new trend. Huh?
Anyone do this before?
Here is the bed I want: (I'll post the armoire in the oak color next)
coasterqueen replied: Here's the armoire (open picture) in oak - the color I want not the black
coasterqueen replied: Here's another pic of the armoire
moped replied: Well it is VERY nice stuff, but I see whaty ou mean about the colors.........could you view it in a showroom to see what the 2 different colors would look like?
coasterqueen replied: I'm trying to find that out. The only dealer around that carries this line does not carry it in their showroom. It's a special order line I guess.
coasterqueen replied: Here's is a pic from the manufacturer's site that has an oak dresser in the background. Not sure if you can see it or not.
moped replied: Oh yeah - so i guess you can pull it off then - it really is gorgeous!
lovemy2 replied: Hmmm - I have seen like black rod iron with oak dressers, etc. but never the same type of wood in two different colors but I think its kinda cool...I have a friend who has all different types of furniture pieces in her bedroom - bed, dresser, night stands - all from different sets - in all different colors actually and to be honest its kinda cool - all the same style - like contemprorary but different pieces....
coasterqueen replied: Ok, I just found another bed - I don't like this bed but it shows how they mixed and matched the furniture. Not sure if I will like it in person or not.
moped replied: Oooooo I kinda like it a lot!!!!!!!!!
Looks very classy!
Take a walk on the wild side!!!!!
luvmykids replied: JMHO, I love mismatched furniture. I personally don't like matchy-matchy so of course I love the set in your pics And I always hear designers on TV say you should have something black in every room to "anchor" it. I don't know what that has to do with it, but the point is I prefer the mismatched look.
I think you should ignore the trend factor though and go with your gut...if it's going to drive you crazy that they don't match, don't do it.
Insanemomof3 replied: OOOO That is a nice bed, and I do like the mix matched look!!!! It is different, and it really looks nice.
coasterqueen replied: I think what is making me question is of course in the pics they look beautiful mix matched, but can *I* make it look that way in my own room? KWIM? Like I don't have white trim - everything in my house (bedroom included is oak trim) and right now I have white walls, although we are trying to decide on a color. IF I can make the mix match look look great then great! I WANT that bed. I just wish I could see it before buying it and I'd feel better.
moped replied: I think you can make it look great - I can picture your house for some reason!
coasterqueen replied: Thanks.
I have to laugh, though, because Dh and I have both decided we SO need an interior decorator to come in and redo the entire place. We are terrible decorators.
moped replied: Oh gosh me too - I really need that....Tom and I can't agree. He likes the older look and I like the modern so it is a constant fight
Cece00 replied: I dont like all matched furniture either. I think you should get the bench, though, since it has the oak with black leather, to help tie it all together.
And, I would paint your trim white. I love white trim, its all I have in my home.
Calimama replied: It will def. work. The wood design on the armoire matches that on the bed. Same box shape, same clean lines, pretty much same texture. It's a great contrast and it opens the space. Good choice!
Our Lil' Family replied: So the black bed is what is bothering you? You'd rather it in natural oak? Would you prefer it if the armoire was black to match the bed?
coasterqueen replied: I think I'd rather have the bed in oak to match the armoire. Also I have other oak furniture already in the room and the trim is oak. I won't paint the trim white - our house is oak trim and that is the way it is. ALl the doors are oak, too so painting the trim white and oak doors seem funny - so that is why I want to go with oak.
I called to go ahead and order it, but they are telling me if I don't like it and wanted to return it they would charge me a $460 restocking fee. So now I'm not sure i want to do that. I'm an indecisive person.
jcc64 replied: Matchey matchey bedroom sets are pretty old school, Karen. At least that's the conventional wisdom in the biz, which of course doesn't always translate to popular tastes. My one concern would be the wood trim- would you ever consider painting that white? Too many different finishes could get a little wacky in conjunction with the wood trim . But don't be afraid of a few colors- even kitchens are like that now- different "feature" pieces mixed in with the other cabinets, in a contrasting finish or wood. I like it.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: For what it's worth... my bedroom furniture is mix matched black and mahogany.
My linens are taupe...and accents are dark red and leopard print.
Jamison'smama replied: I like it --I do agree with getting the bench though---it really ties it all together!
coasterqueen replied: Ooh very pretty. I am wanting to use navy blue, but that's my only color. Any thoughts?
MommyToAshley replied: I am not sure how the navy blue would look with the black? I like the lighter colors, the beigish color looks great with the wood and the black.
OH.. I love the bed!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Navy blue looks fantastic with golden wood tones. And if you want to be a little bold, try adding a darker orange colored cushion or candles, like a rust color almost.....navy blue and orange go fabulous together.
You cold probably also throw some forrest green in there with the navy. Have some dried light pink roses or rose candles... strong colors in a bedroom, with a little feminity.
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, I thought about that afterwards. I'd have to ditch the navy that is already in my room, but the soft yellow color that I already have in there might work.
sparkys2boys replied: I love the bed being black myself.. it makes the bed POP as the focal point of the room.. add some more black accents and it will all tie in nicely!!
