Misquito's and Gnats

MommyToAshley replied: Do you have a lot of fruit in your kitchen. I'd check to make sure it's not going bad... especially bananas. If you throw out banana peels, take your garbage out right away. Gnats seem to love them.

We get these little tiny gnats outside under some of our trees. I am wondering if there is a way to get rid of them. I hate them ... I love the shade but hate the little gnats that come with it.

No I don't....most fruit is in the fridge...When I do buy bananas, they only last for 5 seconds....

stella6979 replied: Fill a little dixie cup with some beer and then cover it with some plastic wrap. Use a toothpick to poke a few holes in the plastic and within a few days you should have a ton of gnats floating around in there. Not sure about mosquitos though.

Teesa®© replied: Yes, what Stella said. It also works if you use sugar water too. They can get in just fine, but can't seem to figure out how to get back out again. I used meat pie trays. I always keep them and it was nice to find another way to reuse them other than just for finger painting They also work great for when you need a little strainer. I just use a fork and poke a few holes in the bottom

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Last year we had gnats really bad in our kitchen. Everyone around here did. Fortunately I haven't seen many this year. But the no see ums are about to carry me away.

Boys r us replied: I will put a bowl of stuff that I'm going to take out to the composter(like cantelope rinds or banana peels etc) and sit it on the counter for an hour and then drag out the central vac and suck them up..but sitting the fruit stuff out will draw them all to one area. I hate them...I can't even say what I call them lol

It worked for us. I checked on line and tried using the vinegar, and wine and all that good stuff, but nothing seemed to work. Well, my Mom was over one day and left a little beer in her glass which I neglectfully left sitting on the counter for a couple days and sure enough they were all swarming it. So, I decided to give it a shot and it worked like a charm.
Technically, it could be considered alcohol abuse, but really, you only need to fill it slightly. I'm sure Troy won't miss those two chugs.

Crystalina replied: Our gnats are out of control here. They seem to love my garbage disposal even though I pour straight bleach down there. And they showed up earlier then usual.
