Milestones at 5 1/2 months - What were your 5 1/2 months old doing?

My2Beauties wrote: I was just wondering what your dd/ds were doing at 5 1/2 months?

Hanna is sitting up on her own, blows lots of raspberries, has said da da da da da da only once or twice, eats Stage 2 foods, walks across the room in her walker, and is starting to soothe herself to sleep. Obviously she smiles and laughs out loud (real loud) already too!

However I'm concerned about her "tummy" milestones. She can hold her head up and everything on her tummy just fine but she gets so frustrated on her tummy and starts screaming after maybe one minute. She won't keep her head held up neither. Part of it is because her great-grandmother watches her on dad's side (she gets around good for 70 years old) along with some of his aunts and grandpa coming over throughout the day. Great -grandma is sort of old-fashioned and thinks it's too cold on the floor for her to be laid down and her couch is "itchy!" I think this is the reason she isn't liking her tummy because she's spoiled being held all day or put in a walker. I try it at night and she gets so mad and buries her face and screams. What to do? blush.gif

bellymonstersmama replied: Bella is only four months so she isn't at alot of those milestones yet, but one thing she has mastered is rolling on to her tummy. Is Hanna rolling either direction yet?

My2Beauties replied: No she won't roll neither, only to her side. Then she doesn't go any further. Nomatter which way we put her, tummy or back, she won't roll! She wants nothing to do with being on her belly unsure.gif The picture on my avatar is one in a million because she is on her belly smiling. She'll do this for one minute and then get mad and throw her arms to the side and start to fuss!

coasterqueen replied: At 5 months Kylie got 2 more teeth and found her feet. rolling_smile.gif She started sitting up, holding a sippy cup and lifting butt up while on stomach at 6 months.

bellymonstersmama replied: When she is on her side twist her lower half untill her opposite leg touches the floor. Don't worry about this hurting her spine, it will actually stretch those back muscles and that will feel good to her. Then continue the roll for her untill she is on her tummy. Once she is there place a rolled up blanket under her chest and a toy infront of her. This won't distract her for long but it will work on building her arm strength. Bella still gets mad when she is on her tummy for long but it's when she gets mad and buries her face that she starts to place her legs under her. And now she is so close to rolling on to her back. When she does it by accident it will click that she caused the action and she will want to repeat it. Even if it means getting frustrated.

My2Beauties replied: Thanks I have tried rolling her myself but didn't think about a blanket and a toy in front of her. I tried the old put the toy beside her in her peripheral vision approach, she just scoots over to the toy on her back and grabs it..... wub.gif When she gets mad and buries her face she acts like she tries to get back over on her back but I guess me being so paranoid about her not being able to breathe I turn her back over myself..... blush.gif Next time I'll let her try to turn herself over until she just can't try anymore. I'm gonna keep working on it. I'll let you guys know her progress. I'm gonna talk to grandma too about putting her on her belly, now that it is warm outside she should do it without saying it's too cold! tongue.gif

kimberley replied: Jade was doing all the same things... even hating tummy time and not rolling. she still does at 8 mos. i think she will be one of those kids who walks before she crawls lol. the only way i can get Jade on her tummy (and only for about 10 minutes) is if i lie down and put her on top of me. she will be okay for a little while but gets tired and cries. babies all develop at different rates so the worst thing you can do is get yourself upset by comparing to others. i belong to a board where we all had babies last august and there are MANY milestones that they have reached that Jade hasn't but her ped assures me she is very healthy. she will do it in her own time. good luck!

A&A'smommy replied: okay alyssa is that old she sits up by herself, she gets bored with her exersaucer lol, rolls all over the place, is trying to crawl, babbles a little she says NO nonnonon UH OH, she blows rasberries, reaches out to me to pick her up, she bits OUCH those two little teeth hurt! I think thats it, I feel like I'm forgeting something...huh

I remember what I'm forgetting she is starting to figure out that she can stand up on her legs, so I think she is going to start pulling up soon. ohmy.gif I think that is bad for me!

Mom2Boyz replied: Conner is almost 5 1/2 months, and he..............
Can roll from front to back
Lifts his butt off the floor when lying on his stomach. He tries his hardest to crawl wub.gif
Holds a sippy cup (but has yet to figure out how to drink from it tongue.gif )
Blows raspberries
Can sit up unassisted for a short time.
Loves to stand, holding onto something of course (he's been doing that since he was like 3 months)

His newest thing is that he's discoverd that if he coughs, he gets LOTS and LOTS of attention tongue.gif
and he's started pulling his socks off. When he's on his belly, he'll pull them off and chew on them. wub.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
OH yes I almost forgot about the toes she has been doing that for a while too! lol
Is that a gerber starter cup? j/w because I haven't bought one for alyssa yet and I'm just trying to decide which one I should get her.

My2Beauties replied: My mother said that I was one of those babies that stood up and walked but never crawled as well! I was just wondering if other moms had this same type of situation. But she is progressing everywhere else beautifully!!! Thanks for the info. everyone and maybe she'll just walk and skip crawling all together. She rolls in her walker! rolling_smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
Every baby excells at something different. That is what my mom told me, she said I walked early and my little brother sat up early. It is just different for every baby! happy.gif Babies are SO much fun lol

Mom2Boyz replied:
thumb.gif Yes it is a Gerber
He has no problem holding it, just hasn't quite figured out that he can get something out of it. tongue.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
awww lol

MommyToRiley replied: Don't worry about her not rolling yet. Riley has always hate tummy time and didn't start really rolling till he was about 7 months. He rolled a couple times around 4-5 months then just stopped! He's almost 9 months now and still not crawling either but at least he's happy! He loves being on his tummy now that HE has decided he wants to be there! rolleyes.gif By 6 months he was sitting up, blowing raspberries all the time, babbling a little, loved standing next to the couch (with someone next to him of course!). He also got two teeth at 6 months so he was ready to feed himself (cheerios)!!! Hannah seems like she is a happy baby, so just enjoyeach stage as it comes! (sometimes i wish riley didn't know how to roll yet! tongue.gif )
