luvmykids replied: Marie, which believe it or not, is not only the latin version of Mary but the Polish one as well (yes, I am half Polish. It explains a lot LOL) In Polish it's pronounced Mar-ya, which is how my parents intended it to be pronounced. But of course nobody ever did so we all use the common pronunciation.

However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love".
This is the name of several New Testament characters, most importantly Mary the virgin mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene. Two queens of England have had this name, as well as a Queen of Scotland, Mary Queen of Scots.
