Mckaylee was missing
mckayleesmom wrote: Just about 10 minutes ago I found her. I was in the kitchen doing dishes and I had given Mckaylee a sippy cup of juice and put on scooby doo and told her to watch her movie before bedtime. I came into the living room about 5 minutes later and she is GONE. I call upstairs thinking she is in my bedroom trying to sneak candy...but nothing. I go outside thinking she snuck out front to play (this is common for her). The girls down the street told me that she crossed the street and went walking way down the block. I start walking to look for her and circle the block with nothing....I went home and checked the house again, basement, bathroom, etc. I told Leithan she was missing, grabbed the car keys and head to the car. My next door neighbor was in the guest parking down the street and yelled that she was accross the street in some girls yard. I walk over and Mckaylee is playing with 2 little girls she has never met before in their fenced yard. Man...I almost committed child abuse. I drug her tiny hiney home and sent her straight to bed. I took her something to drink and we had a long talk about people that take little kids, how wandering away from home scares mommy and daddy and that she is not allowed to leave the house without telling us. Mckaylee has snuck out many times (we can't put locks high up because we live on post houseing), but she has never went further then around our front yard......or to Emily's house at the most. . I can't wait till we move and can put a deadbolt on the front door and they are only allowed to play in their backyard.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'm so glad you found her quick - I would have been freaking out!!!
luvbug00 replied: OMG! why aren't you allowed to put locks on the doors? that's stuiped. Glad she was safe
amynicole21 replied: My heart would have stopped. Can you put bells on the door so that you can at least hear if she opens it? I hope she got the message and will never do that again.
holley79 replied: Oh I would be livid. I did that to my mom when we lived in DC and I was only 5. I decided I was going to walk to Bethesda from Rockville. I got a good way from home. I was trying to cross a busy street and a lady was watching me. She finally called me over and called my mom at work. My mom thought she was going to ask for ransom becuase at first all she said was "I have your daughter." My brother and sister's SD never told my mom I was gone. She said she wanted to kill me.
mckayleesmom replied: Because we live in Army post housing...you are not allowed to put holes in the doors.....They do have locks....but they are just turn locks like on a public restroom...kwim? So she can get them open. Our kitchen door is the one she usually sneaks out of because locked or not...you can still open it from the inside.
I think she got the message....her tush got the message loud and clear.
luvmykids replied: BTDT glad she was ok! Sorry she did that though, that has happened to me and it was the most terrifying 10 minutes of my life!
Glad she didn't get farther.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Yikes! I would have freaked! Glad she was alright!
C&K*s Mommie replied: Oh my.... that has to be one of the scariest things. I am glad she was okay after all, but I hope she will learn not to do that ever again!
mammag replied: I can't even imagine how hard your heart must have been pounding! Scarey! Hopefully her tooshy reminds her adventurous spirit the next time she gets the notion to head out.

SO what woudl happen if you did put a hole in the door?
also dunno if you can find/use these but they sound an alarm when the door opens

might be somethign to check into.
MommyToAshley replied: OMG ... how scary!!!! I bet you almost had a heart attack! So glad she is safe and sound.
The door alarms sound like a good idea! I think I would put a lock on the doors anyways... just let them try to fine me for keeping my child safe! What do they expect people with small kids to do?
Kirstenmumof3 replied: OMG how scary for you! I remember this feeling all too well. My FIL was over and he was working in the backyard. I went downstairs to do a load of laundry and when I came back up his car was gone, so I figured he went home. Then I went to get Spencer and I couldn't find him. I looked in the backyard, he wasn't there. I looked in every room of the house and he was nowhere to be found. I started running down the street and then I called my MIL and she told me that Spencer was with them. I started crying, it was awful! I'm so sorry she did this to you! It sounds like you handled it very well.
aspenblue1 replied: OMG how scary. I am glad she is ok.
My2Beauties replied: OMG Brianne! I would have been bawling. I'm so glad you found her and maybe ask about one of those door chime thingies or bells. How scary!
BAC'sMom replied: I can feel for you. Callum is a little Houdini, and has tried to escape a few times. We finally installed door alarms on all the doors at our home and at my Mom’s.
Good luck
A&A'smommy replied: OMG brianne I would have freaked too I'm glad she is okay though!!!
ashtonsmama replied: NO MORE HIDING WITHOUT TELLING MOMMY MCKAYLEE!
