Maternity clothes.
PrairieMom wrote: I am officially frustrated. How hard can it possibly be to make a maternity shirt that has long sleeves, and isn' t hideous? seriously? Why is it that all the maternity clothes are so super cute when I'm not PG, but when I am they are just ugly? AUGH! anyone have a clue where i can find affordable cute secondhand maternity clothes? ebay has notthin for me
luvmykids replied: I don't know about where you live, but here tons of second hand maternity stores have cropped up....I'm guessing you already tried looking them up?
PrairieMom replied: yeah. All our consignment stores here are for children, and don't have maternity sections. I haven't looked at the goodwill yet, I plan to next week. If all goes like last time, I should have about 6 weeks before I need to wear them, so i have time, but I like to use that time to hunt for deals ya know?
ChristineA replied: I had the opposite problem. I have hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) in my underarms and when I was pregnant I had the hardest time finding shirts with no sleeves, or black shirts with a little bit of a cuff sleeve. pain in the bum. I am lucky tho I have all the outlet stores near by so motherhood maternity, thyme and old navy maternity were all close by with cheap cheap stuff.
PrairieMom replied: It gets to be -30 here in the winter. (I'm in South Dakota) so long sleeves are a MUST. I checked out old navy, and motherhood and have not been impressed. Although, Motherhood.com has more and cutter stuff than our store here.
moped replied: I found Motherhood to be crappy quality - anyone else think that? I bought quite a few shirts from there and wore them a few times and they were falling apart.
bluebear replied: Have you tried Gap Maternity?
ChristineA replied: it gets that cold and colder here but unless I want to show up somewhere with sweat stains I have to wear sleeveless or cap sleeve under my winter jacket. Honestly no joke I could go outside in -20 shovel snow in a bikini and Id still be dripping sweat..its bad
sorry for getting off topic
I had 2 tops from motherhood maternity that I LOVED, I lived in them with my first..and my nursing bra I got there never had a problem with it. have you looked at walmart? last time I was there I saw a lot of cute stuff (well my style anyway) but of course im not pregnant. I was tempted to buy a couple things and put them away with the rest of my stuff.
Calimama replied: -30 degrees!? That's miserable! Anyway I second Old Navy.
PrairieMom replied: I don't do Walmart anymore, they go against everything I stand for.
you guys should really see how bad the clothes I have left over from the other 2 are. Most of them are literally 7 years old, and look it. Our old navy doesn't have a maternity section, but they actually did have a few cute things online.
today when I was out and about i spotted some boutique style store that I thought I would try out, mainly just so I can walk into it, have a stroke, then come here and report how crazy their prices are.
bluebear replied: http://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=6049
How about these?
Calimama replied: Yeah Walmart is icky. Morally and presentation-wise.
jakesmommy08 replied: ok off topic...........why dont you guys like walmart????......I dont like how they put smaller companies out of business but i also have to add that i have been employed there for 2 1/2 years and there a pretty good company to work for. I get benefits, a bonus every quarter, and they are very flexible with my work schedule. no debate here, just curious.
youngmomofone replied: I love oldnavy.com maternity clothes, that's all I have
My mom works for Walmart as well...have nothing against them. Now Target I don't shop there.
PrairieMom replied: here is an interesting artlcle. There are tons out there.
http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/77/walmart.html
here are a few quotes Wal-Mart wields its power for just one purpose: to bring the lowest possible prices to its customers. At Wal-Mart, that goal is never reached. The retailer has a clear policy for suppliers: On basic products that don't change, the price Wal-Mart will pay, and will charge shoppers, must drop year after year. But what almost no one outside the world of Wal-Mart and its 21,000 suppliers knows is the high cost of those low prices. Wal-Mart has the power to squeeze profit-killing concessions from vendors. To survive in the face of its pricing demands, makers of everything from bras to bicycles to blue jeans have had to lay off employees and close U.S. plants in favor of outsourcing products from overseas.
the chain is helping accelerate the loss of American jobs to low-wage countries such as China. Wal-Mart, which in the late 1980s and early 1990s trumpeted its claim to "Buy American," has doubled its imports from China in the past five years alone, buying some $12 billion in merchandise in 2002.
The public image Wal-Mart projects may be as cheery as its yellow smiley-face mascot, but there is nothing genial about the process by which Wal-Mart gets its suppliers to provide tires and contact lenses, guns and underarm deodorant at every day low prices. Wal-Mart is legendary for forcing its suppliers to redesign everything from their packaging to their computer systems. It is also legendary for quite straightforwardly telling them what it will pay for their goods.
I can see what else I can find when I have more time
