Make it stop
MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: Logan has developed this awful habit lately. And it's driving me nuts. He has always been a small eater. A few bites and he simply turns his head or pushes the plate out of the way. I usually go with it, I use a 3-day rule, if things don't even out over 3 days (he usually has one pig out day) then I worry. But lately he's been driving me batty. He has started throwing his food on the table or the floor when he doesn't want any more. And if he takes a bite of something and doesn't like the taste or texture he does the raspberry thing, minus the tongue, until it's all out of his mouth and all over the tray or table. How do I get him to quit raspberry? If he simply spit it out, I wouldn't be as horrified. I hate taking him out to restaurants, people must think I am an awful mother. (We need a pulling hair out smilie.)
amymom replied: I do not have any good advice. Just hugs.
luvbug00 replied: hummm. not sure what you should do..I'd just tell Mya ( if she did it ) to STOP. in a firm but not yelling voice and then show how to spit into a napkin?
edited to say .. BTW fortune cookie not working..I know bad timing..
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Fortune cookie work for me. Have to hit one time right in middle. Okay, two times in center of cookie.
jacobsmama replied: ahhhhh Jacob has been doing same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It also is driving me crazy. I told him if he didn't stop this then mommy was going to have to feed you like a baby. He didn't like that very well So every time he starts to spit his food out and do that I say this and it seems to be happening less often but it is so annoying. He tends to just spit it out and then keeping spitting to get it ALL out.... YUCK, and he does it with food I know he likes he is just done...I feel your pain and I hope it gets better soon!
ediep replied: sounds just like jason.....he is still a picky eater at 3 1/2. He also has his bird-like days and his pig out days.
Not sure about the spitting....maybe saying "stop" kind of loudly would work eventually.
Good luck
na81 replied: I totally have the same problem with Taylor and throwing food!! As a matter of fact, she just did it with her lunch today!! It is so frusterating! Hope things get better for you! I wish I had some good advice for you as I know what you're going through, but nothing has worked for me!! Nicole
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Same problem here!!! I just say no and take the food away. And I don't reward him with something else UNLESS I know it's because he truly doesn't like the food. But in most cases, he likes the food and he's only doing it to get attention. So the food gets taken away. If he keeps it up and throws everything on the floor after us telling him no, then he gets three warnings and then time-out.
I think it's a total phase. Hang in there! It should get better...I hope!
C&K*s Mommie replied: Food came out all the time with Kel. But eventually she learned to use a napkin or to make gestures while her mouth is open (not a pleasing sight but still) before she can release the food. C was always great about letting us know she disapproved.
I think it is a phase, it should pass (hopefully) just as quickly as it came on, once he realizes that letting go of his food is not appropiate w/out a napkin.
moped replied: Jack does the throwing food across the room, I jst ignore it because if I give any reaction good or bad it is still a reaction his bad habit
My2Beauties replied: Hanna did this and still does spit food out of her mouth if she doesn't like it, so good luck! I think it's just something some kids do, I just tell her firmly to STOP and then if she keeps doing it, her food gets taken away!
b&bsmom replied: I agree ignore it. If he throws the food take it away with no big scene. If he spits I would ignore it the best you can. I know easier said then done. After a little while he should not do it or at least not as often. I was a really bad eater and my mom was told by a doctor to give me dinner if I didn't eat it save it till breakfast and so on. All it proved was I could go 3 days without eating. Best not to show too much attention to it and not to make it a battle. If they are hungry they will it. If they don't like it they don't eat it and will wait for the next meal. Hope that helps a little. I hate dealing with the eating issues it is not fun at all!!
