Look what I found in my drain!
mammag wrote: Since we moved into our house (had it built) the main bathroom tub has been really slow. I would snake it, plunge it, put chemicals....you name it. It would drain slightly faster for a while but then clog up again. I thought maybe the builders got plaster or something in there because there was a bunch in the tub that I had to clean up.
Anyway, so this weekend I was going at it again and noticed something black and what looked like a screw. It wouldn't come out so I had to take out the whole drain which was a major undertaking.....those things are in there good!
Well, I finally got it off and this is what was in there! Notice the size in comparison to the drain.....NO WONDER the thing was clogging. Darn builders!
It's some kind of a bottle with a metal top with threading so I have no clue what it was.
PrairieMom replied: WTH? Those builders really don't care tho. When I was having my house built they would always pee in the corner of my basement. I found a 6 inch piece of coper pipe in my heat vent the other day too. I've only lived here for 5 years! I guess its time to have our vents professionally cleaned.
mammag replied: Isn't that disgusting!? I came in the house one day to check things out and it smelled so bad of urine as well. In ours apparently they had been using the sump pump. I made them come in and flush it. They used bleach to try and get rid of the smell which helped.
The sales guy told me a horrible story (said I should feel lucky ). Apparently one of the people buying was smelling something worse than urine and somehow figured out it was in the wall. Some one made a poo in the wall and then put the drywall over it!!! I don't know if I could have closed on the house after that. Ooh!!!!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: OMG that is terrible! And I can't believe the other stories, that is just disgusting!
CantWait replied: WOW how that could fit in there, I'm clueless.
Those stories are disgusting.
Jackie012007 replied: LOL that is a water bottle for a Hamster... WTH was that doing in your drain???
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Good grief!!
And about the pee!
coasterqueen replied: I'd believe it. When the drywall contractors were working on our house during our building process we didn't notice it at the time, but about 3 years later when we were 'preparing' the house for Kylie's arrival and cleaning the entire house we found 2 plastic coke bottles in the vents.
Glad you found the culprit and hope it solves the problem.
redchief replied: Jeanie, that is a pneumatic test ball. It was put in there during the plumbing rough-in to test the system. Apparently it was missed by the plumber. It appears the reason it was missed was there is a chain with a big ring on it that is missing.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: hmmm interesting....thanks for the explaination, I had nooooo clue what that could have been!
jaytrevjax replied: How strange. It makes me want to take a look in all of my vents and drains to see what our builders left in our house!
mammag replied: AHA!!!!! I can't believe you said that because when we were working on it some time ago we pulled up a piece of chain and I hoped that was what it was and we had gotten it all. So that is obiously exactly what it was!
That makes me feel better that it probably wasn't intentional. How does that thing work?
Jackie012007 replied: ok I was wrong... but SERIOUSLY it looks like a hamster water bottle
redchief replied: You should... especially on the roof. It's where they are most often forgotten.
redchief replied: You fill it just like a tire inner tube. It expands inside the pipe so that it can be filled with water or air to test and make sure the drain pipes are water-tight.
Nina J replied: That's weird, and the other stories are disgusting
I wonder if I have any weird things lurking in my house, besides DH
